I been wondering in the last couple of years of how the draft is always being rated. One of the main factors other than the combine is the senior bowl. In todays standards, if a player does not do well in the senior bowl they are slated to be horrible players.

Think of the many quarterbacks in the last couple of years who did very well in the senior bowl. Now think of how many of those quarterbacks were successful. If you think about it, quarterbacks never do bad in the senior bowl thus giving them a better chance fo getting picked earlier specially if the hype is huge among that player. Derek hagan is a big example. Poor play in the senior bowl but consistency through all his career and that is better than one just good game in my opinion. It also happened to allen in a way because he was one of the top db's in the draft last year and this year, he was smart enough not to go into the nfl and stay in college for one more year.

Tony Pauline, a scout and a draft expert had Jason Allen as the best defensive back in the draft and some even had him at 7th because of a hip injury. He also had Derek Hagan rated at 2nd round but if he learns how to come off the line of scrrmmage faster then he will become a good receiver at the number 2 slot. Not a bad pick in the third round for miami but if he is coached the right way then he would be a very productive 3rd down receiver. If there is something I learned in the last 7 years is that the senior bowl shouldn't dictate a draft.

the senior bowl is overrated, not as much as its ugly brother, the combine, but still nonetheless overrated

a players body of work and his physical and mental abilities should be the most important factors in determing their worth, along with their "character". i think the personal workouts and interviews are the most important postseason assessments

The Senior Bowl or Hula Bowl does NOT dictate where a player is picked in the draft. If it did, Cutler would have been drafted after Whitehurst. It's the week of practices and drills that leads up to the game that influences the scouts, coaches and other decision makers. Hagan dropped several passes that week and it scared some teams away.

jay cutler didnt do that well in the senior bowl IMHO, but he still went 11th

I like the Hagan pick, but I would've liked Brandon Marshall more.

it seems like it to me. Hagan was easily one of the top three receivers as far as what he accomplished in college during the season, but he messed up at the senior bowl, and had a bad combine, much like Boldin himself.

Hagans situation is quite similar.

Just proves a point about an arguement I had a few weeks ago about these little Senior Bowl and Pro Day practices. Guess what? If it wasn't for these practices, Ronnie Brown wouldn't have been picked 2nd overall in last year's draft. These practices make or break a players' value.

Sorry but it was Cadilac that tore up the Senior Bowl last year; it was Ronnie's performance at the Combine that raised eyebrows. However, I agree with the posters who think the Senior Bowl/Combine performance is overrated (esp. by the media - I'm not sure the extent by the NFL decision makers).

So do I. He tore it up for my fantasy team; he was a free agent pickup about week two and was my best reciever thereafter.

His performance in that one game shot his value to hell.
