having you people forgotten about this prospect.....he could compete agasint Hodge for that OLB job cuz i remember he had a very good game last year when we beat San Diego.....he stuff LT a good 3 times.....hes got great acceleration, and a good sense of speed.....i think he also has decent vision on the field to make the right tackles.........thoughts?

I haven't forgotten about Pope and he didn't play in the San Diego game. His best game last year was against Buffalo, but it wasn't anything spectacular. He's a decent MLB, he just lacks the size (6 ft., 230 lbs) to be the ideal LB in a 3-4 scheme. I think Hodge (6ft. 3 in, 244 lbs) is better than Pope at the OLB position and that is because Pope is a MLB by trade, not an OLB. If Saban gives Hodge some time, I think you guys will be impressed with his play. He hasn't reached his full potential yet, he's a decent player and I hope our coaches can bring the best out of him.

True, and remember that Pope was drafted by Wanny and Bates to be ZT replacement in the middle...he does fit Zach's mold for the Bates/Wanny/JJ D, but not really in this style of defense...

Good Point, Saban and Wanny/Bates/JJ lay completely different defense

he was drafted to be more than a special teams guy. if he was drafted to be a replacement they would have not wait to the 7th round to do so. i like pope and think he's deserves a chance to fight for a job at WLB with Hodge and Sparagan.

He was drafted to play special teams just like e. moore. :shakeno: The previous regime was incapable of thinking about the future.
Anyway, I don't see pope making the squad this year.
