I think we need to look for some competition for Randy McMichael in the pass catching TE role. After looking at some numbers from the combine, I came across Derek Schouman from Boise State. He's 6'2 1/2, 235lbs. His role in the Boise State offense was H-back/fullback, but he's got enough height to play the tignt end position. He's also been described as very sure handed, and he has a great understanding of routes and coverages. For his size, he's also been described as an aggressive blocker.

When you look at his combine performance, Schouman is even more impressive.
27 reps on the bench,
4.74 Forty (5th best for TE),
37 1/2 Vertical (1st for TE),
7.0 Three-Cone (3rd best for TE),
4.27 20-yard shuttle (1st for TE).

I think this is the kind of kid we can grab in the 6th or 7th round and have him starting within 2 years. Basically, he's got a great understanding for the game and a good feel for the passing game due to his time in the Boise St. system. Another 5-10 pounds of muscle could turn him into the reliable TE we need.

At 6'2" he does not have the height you look for in a TE. I think Schouman's role in the NFL would be similar to his role at Boise State. Unless he can block like Shannon Sharpe, he'll have to put on some serious weight to be a starting TE in the NFL.

Schoumen was a tight end at boise state. He had eight catches in the fiesta bowl. He would be a bargain at the 6th or 7th round. He is a great athlete and can catch the ball well. Miami would be smart to pick him up at the later rounds if he is available.

Idaho is the "Gem state".

He seems a little small to be a TE, but I haven't seen him play so who knows? It looks like Zach Miller, ASU, dropped from being the #1 TE to 2nd behind Olsen. I just think it is time to replace McMichael.

well i liked the small school te michael allen in the latter rounds after his combine workouts.

cool sounds like he could be a good pick up in the later rounds and would be good to see that we could bring in someone to replace mcmichael.
