The Newark Star-Ledger was hearing that free agent Derrick Ward's price tag was down to as low as $2.5 million a year at the NFL Combine.
Ward originally began looking for $4 million annually. It seems like his value isn't as high as he hoped, but he's still by far the top tailback available in free agency. It will be a shock if he gets less than $3 million a year.

NFL.com's Adam Schefter points out that the Dolphins could save $3.5 million in salary cap room by releasing Ricky Williams.
Ricky is coming off a solid season and the move seems unlikely, unless Miami thinks it could woo Derrick Ward for similar or less money. Ward is younger than Williams and has a lot less tread on his tires. Williams will probably return to the Fins, but is expected to assume a lesser role in 2009.

Look Schefter does not come up with crap. If he is reporting this is because usually where there is smoke there is fire. Ricky is gonna be 32 and he is puff away from being suspended forever. I think they not only get a good back, but a certain backup to Ronnie. Look Ward might not be a starter but he has been an exceptional back up for the Giants. I love Ricky and dont want to see it end like this, but some players are gonna get cut whether we want to admit it or not.
