The Newark Star-Ledger was hearing that free agent Derrick Ward's price tag was down to as low as $2.5 million a year at the NFL Combine.
Ward originally began looking for $4 million annually. It seems like his value isn't as high as he hoped, but he's still by far the top tailback available in free agency. It will be a shock if he gets less than $3 million a year.

NFL.com's Adam Schefter points out that the Dolphins could save $3.5 million in salary cap room by releasing Ricky Williams.
Ricky is coming off a solid season and the move seems unlikely, unless Miami thinks it could woo Derrick Ward for similar or less money. Ward is younger than Williams and has a lot less tread on his tires. Williams will probably return to the Fins, but is expected to assume a lesser role in 2009.

Look Schefter does not come up with crap. If he is reporting this is because usually where there is smoke there is fire. Ricky is gonna be 32 and he is puff away from being suspended forever. I think they not only get a good back, but a certain backup to Ronnie. Look Ward might not be a starter but he has been an exceptional back up for the Giants. I love Ricky and dont want to see it end like this, but some players are gonna get cut whether we want to admit it or not.

Ward will be able to get a better shot at starting than there is Miami, at that price tag, every team without an established starter would likely be interested.

Jacksonville would be a good fit for ward, so would NO.

swapping Ricky for Ward would kick *** but Ward will probably want more $ and a shot to be the guy.
We should stick to the - pick mid-rounders til one sticks- method with RB's.

I think the Tuna is thinking about upgrading the RB position and the fact that it comes from Shefter, I believe it even more. The fact Ward was mentioned is even more Sweet.

i think he will go o ver the the browns... i hope the replace lewis for there sake, cuz i feel for the browns being form ohio :)

I think Ward would be looking to become a starter. It won't happen here with Ronnie holding that job down.

The Dolphins aren't going to get rid of Ricky, Why should they he showed them last season that he could be the player that the Dolphins needed. He helped run the wildcat offense and he did a great job at it. All those who keep bringing up the fact that he is just one puff away from never playing again need to find something new to say negative about Ricky. I believe almost everyone was happy with what Ricky did for our team last season. And now that he has had a year in this system i believe he will do even better this year. I like Ward but i think Ricky fits our team better and about his age .... Remember he had 2 yrs off so i think his legs are fresh. Just my Opinion....

you believe what even more? no where does anyone say we are looking to do this or to do anything with Ricky at all. Adam Schefter is just pointing out it this COULD be a POSSIBILITY. not that there are any rumblings of anything even close to this...

ricky didnt play for 3 years and i think he still has a good few years with us and would be disappointed if we cut
