In the last few years the Dolphins have struggled at cornerback, safety, LB, TE, Oline, QB, and WR. This is not an exaggeration but a pure fact. Even last year the Phins ranked poorly in every one of those categories except safety.
A year later we have a sophomore QB who is getting killed. A WR core who ranks as potentially one of the best in the NFL but has a QB getting killed. A stepped up TE pass catcher in Charles Clay who’s QB is getting killed and a suspect running game because an Oline can’t block…while the QB is getting killed. Defensively we have a stronger LB’ing corp, two up and coming rookie CB’s who are playing behind one of the teams surprise players in Brent Grimes, a safety duo of Reshad Jones and Chris Clemons who are getting better and a defensive line that still has the potential to be great.
Where does that leave us?
The offensive line. There is no question that the Dolphins are a train wreck already happened along the line. The band-aid patch of Bryan McKinnie will do nothing more than swap out mediocre play for mediocre play maybe Jonathan Martin plays far better than Tyson Clabo on the right side. O.k., I concede…he “better” play better. My point is that the Dolphins are not only young, but they are for the most part under contract and aside from the offensive line troubles are on the verge of being a very good football team.

I disagree with a lot of this. I don't think the LB group is stronger, I don't think Taylor/W. Davis is worth noting over V. Davis/Smith and the WR core is middle of the pack (certainly better than last seasons, however we could of assembled a football team on Finheaven and there is a chance that WR group would be better than last season's). The one big positive is the stepped up consistency of Charles Clay in the passing game, but he is such a liability as a blocker you can't necessarily say he's a better fit than Fasano either. The safety play hasn't been as sharp either and despite adding guys on the defense to create more of a pass rush, we are only slighty ahead of last year's pace in sacks (sure Cam Wake being out probably has something to do with it). The oline is playing at a level that could break records (in a bad way) and the 2nd year QB is suffering from it. Running back is certainly not improved either.

The bright spot continues to be the specialists where our punter continues to be amongst the league's best, our rookie PK has been solid (though another missed kick he'll start hearing about it) and Denney is still a rock at the LS.

I sure hope the future looks bright, because the present seems a bit ****ty right now.

The two up and coming CBs can't get on the field. How the hell can they be considered up and coming? As for the LBs, they may be faster but their coverage skills are horrendous. Wheeler can get pressure from the inside but he is god awful in coverage. I do like what I have seen from Jenkins but I don't see him as having the potential for a tremendous future.

WR corps is decent. Perhaps if the OL can get their act together they won't need to break off routes so often and plays can actually develop.

Pitiful when year in and year out your specialty guys are the most consistent performers on the field.

Bright Spots.....

WR - Overall the unit is worlds better then last season's group and is one of the better groups in the NFL...

QB - Despite being beaten like he stole something, Tannehill is still playing well.

DT - Odrick, Starks and Soliai have all played exceptionally well (unfortunately the LBs behind them can't take advantage)

Brent Grimes - and upgrade over both Smith and Davis, though no one has stepped up to become a legit number 2.

Specialist - Both Kickers and Thingpen have played very well all season and have had an impact in the 3 wins.

Thats about it.....everywhere else is a concern and a disappointment.

I think if we target some top end Oline players in FA and in the draft we could make the Oline a strength next year and perhaps RT has the time he needs to develop into a top end QB.i see the light at the end of the tunnel lets hope this staff can do the right thing in the near future.year 3 should tell us just what type of team Phiblin has.so far year 2 is a roller coaster ride due to some bad Line play and play calling.

I don't know about all this , but one thing I do know is that we just lost to Thad Lewis and 2 hurt running backs ,, I respect your thread it is good but if we can't beat these teams at home with a QB off the street I can't listen to future or potential. Everybody has to play better too to bottom they ain't getting it done its hard getting excited talking about what we got and future good players after that **** we had to watch Sunday .. We won't have to talk about these guys anymore if they keep losing at home to The emortal Thad Lewis and QB's like that cause they won't be here anymore .. Thread is cool tho I am just still extremely frustrated at this team
