Two stories that have made the rounds of NFL websites the past few days are Brandon Marshall’s ongoing feud with Denver and the lack of interest by other teams in Cleveland wideout Braylon Edwards.
Had either story surfaced a few months ago, they’d have been fresh fodder for Dolfans who love speculating what players with such a perceived upside might accomplish in Miami. This time around, they produced next to no interest.
And that’s a good sign for the Dolphin receiving corps.
While Miami still doesn’t have a potential gamebreaker with a Randy Moss/Terrell Owens-type pedigree, there was a sense coming out of this spring’s workouts that there’s a lot of promise in the group that will begin sorting itself out when training camp begins Aug. 1.
That’s not to say there aren’t plenty of question marks, starting with experience. The top three of Ted Ginn Jr., Greg Camarillo and Davone Bess are all still coming into their own; Patrick Turner and Brian Hartline are the rawest of rookies, and Brandon London and Anthony Armstrong remain projects at best. (For purposes of this article, we’re lining up Ernest Wilford at tight end for now.) The Dolphins didn’t have a No. 1 receiver at the end of last season and they still don’t have one now.
