Despondency

–noun
state of being despondent; depression of spirits from loss of courage or hope; dejection.

I am shocked at the amount of hindsight on the site. All of the what if we had done this and why did we do that and how come they called that. I look down through the posts after one game and see humpty dumpty the sky is falling. Several interesting things that everyone needs to remember going forward:

1) If you would take Santana Moss or Reggie Wayne on a team then do not give up on Ted Ginn. Ted Ginn will at least be as productive as Santana or Wayne and maybe better, he has more speed. I am not saying Ginn will or will not be a number 1 receiver but I know he will have a roll on this team or somewhere else in the future his numbers for season one are as good or better then Moss or Wayne and neither Santana or Reggie had break out seasons until year three or four. Oh and neither of them played on 1 -15 teams their first year either!
2) This was a 1 -15 team last year. Nobody goes to the super bowl after a 1 – 15 season, winning 4 to 8 games is a good goal. With so much turn over on the roster it will take time to develop relationship and chemistry on the team. The frame work is in place this year and next year will only produce more talent and free agents to help. One thing about this regime that is great, hoard the draft picks and put the team in great financial shape. Something this franchise has not had in years.
3) The more reps Pennington gets the better he will become. Don’t be fooled if you think Chad isn’t thinking in the back of his mind about arm strength and under throwing balls. When he starts several games his doubt will subside and with time Chad will teach Henne/Beck what proper game management is about and put some wins on the board in the process. Oh and Penny’s QB rating is also in the 120’s with out that pick on the final play, efficient.
4) It took Brett Favre a throw that gets picked off 7 times out of 10 to beat the Phins. That throw might as well have been pulled out of his a$$ but who cares, statistically everyone did their job on Defense and it just happened to be a 30% completion that scored the win for the Jets. No one gave Miami a chance to run with the Jets and they did more then run with them they put themselves in a position to win and that is a good thing to build confidence from.
5) Miami has a young line and young lines give up sacks and hurries and commit mistakes. The line is the building block of everything offense and defense. When this line gels, and it will gel, the Phins ground game will take off and that takes all sorts of pressure off the receiving core and passing game. See the Pittsburgh Steelers for insight into pound pound pound. Long and company will take some lumps but sooner rather then later that crew will be giving out the lumps.
6) That brings me to the receiving core and the ability to pass to tight ends that were considered inept by many on this board very board. Shut the receivers down all day if you have a TE that led this week in receptions and was fourth in yards out gaining Gates, Gonzalez, Shockey and Winslow. I’ll take that production every week if I am Sparano.
7) The coaching staff is learning too. Sparano has pressure pushing him also and he will go through is growing pains just like the rest of them. Even Belichick was not deemed a genius in his first years.

It doesn’t matter how many games are lost or how many players come and go, I will wear my colors tried and true from now until the end. Good game and keep the head up, go Phins…………………

How are you going to say that Ginn might be better than Santana Moss or Reggie Wayne and not say with confidence that he'll be a #1 receiver? lol

He would have to be....

Ginn's speed is exactly why he WON'T ever be a #1 receiver...

Moss and Wayne aren't pro bowlers because they're fast...they're pro bowlers because they know how to run routes....play without fear...and play with the intent to dominate..

Ginn plays not to break a nail inbetween paychecks...

My points as well...

He can play better than Moss or Wayne and not be a number one receiver. Wayne arguably was not the Colts number one receiver until Harrison got hurt. If Miami signs a complimentary receiver next season Ginn will benefit. That is why I said he may or may not become a number one receiver. My statement was don't give up on him if you would take Moss or Wayne let the boy develop this year instead of yelling the sky is falling.

First year numbers for each player.

First year
Ginn : 420 yards, 34 rec., 12.4 ave., 2 TD
Wayne: 345 yards, 27 rec., 12.8 ave., 2 TD
Moss: 433 yards, 30 rec., 14.4 ave., 4 TD - note: these are his second year stats he only had 40 yards in year one.

Exactly..

Ted Ginn can be fast until he's 80 years old and it won't matter until the day he becomes a polished receiver. Unless you want to make him a full-time special teamer.

Not giving up on him; it's only year two. But his weaknesses are magnified by the fact that there is no one else around him stepping up at the position.

Did you seriously compare Ginn to Reggie Wayne? With all those words, I had to read no further than that...come on dude. Reggie Wayne runs routes...that is why he is one of the NFL's top WRs.

Route running is the key to being an elite WR! Tedd Ginn does not have it.

This despondency you speak of is somewhat understandable....most of us were raised on the perennial playoff fins....some even on the perfect fins....a franchise with pride and history. Lately there is no semblance of that, and while I think the despondency this year is a bit unwarranted, it is still understandable. The wars and challenges of fanhood amongst us is absurd. For those who are annoyed at the negativity, understand that some people are pessimistic and some optimistic...it's all a matter of personality and preference. Regardless we are all fans, and we all come here, so obviously we all care enough to keep supporting the team. All those negative guys will still wake up Sunday and put their cleanest (or not) piece of Dolphins apparel and sit in front of the TV for the entire duration of the game. The fact is we have fallen a long way from what we are used to, and have not lifted ourselves off the mat for too long now...the negative sentiments come with the territory...GET OVER IT

CK's comments about Chad Jackson I think may ring true to Ginn as well. Being blazing fast does not mean you can create separation or catch the ball.

I read the rest now, and I agree with everything except the comparison to Wayne...Ginn is a bust and I have a broken coffee table that says I knew it from draft day. In college running as fast as you can past people may get you some nice stats, but in the pros it'll just get you tired.

Sorry for judging your whole post on just one detail, that was a knee-jerk reply.

I did not compare Ginn to Wayne. If you read my statement all it said was if you would take Wayne or Moss on this team do not give up on Ginn yet the numbers are very comparable and none of them had good years until at least three years in. True statement look at the facts.

This society is all about now and nothing for the future, everyone wants a franchise QB, RB and WR but no one ever wants to let them develop or invest more than 1 year. The same with this despondency I speak of, the phins loose one game to a team that was favored to win and 70% of the posts are what if's and how come's. I learn from my mistakes and go forward so will the Dolphins. The Dolphins are not despondent this board is and you are right about one thing you have a right to be pessimistic. Your can might be half empty and his can might be half full but while you sit and debate that fact I am going to drink the whole thirty pack of Coors Light and watch the game. :beer1:

Are you sure that blurr is because Ginn is fast or because of the 30 Coors Lights?

Ginn's apparent lack of football smarts is why he still can't run a simple slant route in front of the defender...let him at least do that before saying he can be better than two pro bowl receivers...

The coors lights help Ginn look better.... oh wait maybe at that point I don't give a shizzle anymore. ha. Give him this year and next and then make him walk the plank if he still sucks. Thats all I'm puttin' down.

It has been a long offseason, and we lost again, I am getting depressed, All I want is hope, can someone show me the light
