Yeah, I was reading in another thread that we control our own destiny. I decided to check it out, and it's true. Assuming we win out, the Pats win out, and the Jets win out (except against us in week 17 of course) that would put all three teams at 11-5.
The first tie-breaker when three teams are tied is head to head. Each team would hold a 2-2 record.
The second tie-breaker is division record, and again each team would hold the same record, 4-2.
The third tie-breaker is record in common games. By my calculations, the teams have 10 opponents in common (sea, sf, sd, oak, arz, kc, buf(2), stl, and den). Assuming all teams win the remaining games (again excluding the Jets in week 17 vs us) I have each team with the following record: Miami- 9-1, NYJ- 7-3, and NE- 9-1. This would eliminate the Jets from winning the AFC East.
To determine who wins the division title, Miami and New England now follow the two team tie-breaker rules. The order is the same as the three team tie-breaker.
Head to Head: 1-1 -- same
Division record: same at 4-2 a piece
Common games record: same at 9-1 a piece
Conference record: Mia- 8-4 NE- 7-5
With that, the Miami Dolphins would be AFC East Champions.
