He was down on Stanton, didn't seem to like him at all, says he is nothing special.

Says he doesn't see Troy Smith or Chris Leak being good pros, says Korrodi is the 2nd best arm in the draft (after Jamarcus) but is very raw and green, probably won't be drafted, but based on arm strength he is the 2nd best.

I really like Simms as an analyst, very insightful in my opinion. I like Beck, although I've only seen highlights. Boomer mentioned him, so I checked him out on youtube- the guy just popped out at me. And he seems to have "it", a clutch time winner. Tremendous feet, also.

If the Dolphins have a conviction about Quinn and we get him, great. If we don't get him, I'm thinking that we'll take Beck at #60. Then we'll have Beck, Green, and Lemon. I would have liked to see a healthy Culpepper do his thing, but that seems unlikely now. Maybe we can trade him to the Raiders for a 4th, who knows.

We've been high on Beck for a while. Also worthy of note late in the draft is Jeff Rowe.

Beck has that mentality where he'll do what it takes to make sure the ball gets into the hands of his target. He got knocked for arm strength in college but it was just because he threw most of his balls with touch instead of zip. I mean, by far his #1 target was a tight end, Johnny Harline...and so he just continually lofted passes and lofted passes to him in order to let Harline make a play on the ball with his size (the guy played a lot like a big receiver).

Now in the pre-draft process he's being told the scouts don't want to see touch anymore...they want to see you zipping the ball around. So he does that, and ends up with something like the second-fastest ball recorded at the Combine (Simms is correct, Korrodi's got the #2 arm in the draft, his fastballs at the Combine may have even beaten Jamarcus Russell's if he threw).

Beck has great feet, excellent accuracy, a lot of maturity and leadership skills...the only drawbacks are the level of competition and the age (he's 25 because he went on mormon mission). I actually like the Alex Smith comparison for Beck more than I like it for Brady Quinn.

Beck was good in the red zone this year but I believe he tossed 2 interceptions in the red zone...which came out well in % terms but still, you'd like to see a guy not throw any in the red area.

Troy Smith didn't throw an interception in the red area, he had your model quarterback red zone efficiency in terms of completion %, YPA, something like 9 TDs and 0 INTs. Beck was 22/34, good completion, but only 4.4 ypa, 11 TDs, and 2 INTs.

I like Beck because he has a good understanding of platforms and he has a wide range of motions, picking and choosing the best ball to get to his target. When he "grows up" so to speak in league terms, he could be another Rich Gannon.

You know what gets me.....Simms is down on Quinn because he's "nothing special" with the deep ball BUT possesses good football IQ. Now compare that to everyone who complains that Culpepper has poor decision making skills and can't read defenses....yet can throw the football over them moutains. So which is it?

It just seems that its rare to get both a gifted QB with all the athletic ability in the world AND smarts at the same time. It seems more often than not one or the other is a weakness. So the question is...which is more important?

also said that Beck and Edwards "might" be there for the Fins at 40, so if the Fins REALLY like one of those guys they might need to trade up if they are afraid someone swipes them

I like Beck. Watched him a bit last year. Smart guy with good abilities. If we miss Quinn I wouldn't mind him.

to me, Brady Quinn is a buffer, more athletic Drew Brees with a better arm (better since Brees' injury for sure). He learned under a pro style offense guy in Weiss. Brady Quinn will be a great QB if he keeps working every day at getting better instead of seeing himself as great and just living off of reputation. I think Quinn is the former.

I like Beck as well. Very Mature with a kid on the way and has the leadership and talent to do the job but could be a guy who puts in a couple of good-great years and then fizzles off into free agency land to land in unstable situations.

Kevin Kolb is the guy that intrigues me because of his value and I like the way he moves in the pocket. His feet seem to smoothly flow in any direction needed to get open and make plays and he knows where the first down marker is.

Stanton is the guy that was talked about alot in Senior Bowl week. Vermiel obviously liked him. Not sure about his value if he is considered the #3 QB in this draft by most.

Acording to some people in the VIP room after Quinn and Russell are gone there are going to be several teams picking Qb's early in the 2nd RD. So if we miss on Quinn on RD 1 we will have to use #40 pick to get one of this guys (Kolb, Stanton, Edwards,Beck). Chances are they wont be there with our 2nd pick in the 2nd RD.
