Clayton mentions that Aponte was structured to get a new position in the "new regime"

This article by Jason La Canfora states
Several league sources say Ross, who relies heavily on business-side execs Dawn Aponte and Matt Higgins, is contemplating a restructuring where a new general manager would report to Aponte, and not the owner, and thus she would truly head football operations.

So my question is, did Aponte see the writing on the wall and make Ross believe SHE would be the one to rescue the team? And maybe Ross bought it, and Ireland realized what was about to happen? If that was the case, it would explain why he'd leave. It would mean Aponte controlled the team during a make or break year for Ireland. He would be a "lame duck" and be blamed for any of her misfirings.

I've seen Aponte rise pretty quickly, she's always the one behind the scenes and you get the feeling she wanted more. It's very possible she ends up as our GM, and I'm not sure she has the experience for that.

LOL…This is what I said would happen all night.

Ross

Aponte

GM (Tannebaum, Pioli, Mangini or Gaine)

Joe

No czar, no "outside" candidate.

People DO NOT realize how powerful Aponte is.

Mike Tannebaum might send me to the loony ward.

Jeff Darlington, who is like the only guy left who has any credibility (or at least, he has a lot more than Jason effing La Canfora) has said that Aponte flat out will not be in charge.

So take a deep breath.

John Clayton said the same thing I was railing about about a hour ago. Aponte is going to run this thing at the top. She will not pick the players, but will have to sign off on it. The GM is still vital, but those looking for a major shift in the org…it is not happening.

I am hoping the GM that is picked has a good eye for talent. Pioli is good. Mangini is outstanding. Gaine deserves a shot. Tannebaum…holy ****.

When has John Clayton EVER had a scoop or inside info on the Dolphins? Breathe, Hayden.

If it does happen, freak out. I will freak out with you. I will drive over to the Dolphins training facility with a megaphone and park out on the other side of the street and form a one man protest, and I will wear a Golden Gophers jersey while I do it, just for you.

But not until it actually happens.

JESUS.. thats NOT what LaCanfora said.. She HAS NOT been restructured. He said Ross is CONTEMPLATING restructuring.

**** read things properly.

Aponte is the money. She's already been doing that. All she may get is a new fancy title. Player personnel moves will be left to the player personnel people.

I think Clayton is solid. Be that as it may…I will keep saying it Aponte is going to be a major player within the org. Major. That scares off possible candidates. Therefore, they have to feel comfy with Aponte around. That is where these articles and past ones by the Herald have been right…people like Pioli, Mangini and Tannabaum are the suspects.

If you research Dawn Aponte, you see that her name was being tossed around in NFL circles for Executive positions. It could be that Ross wanted to keep her with the organization, so he promised her Football Czar powers. Ireland said F that S and bailed.

This article was posted just 5 days ago, meaning it was right during Ross's evaluation period, smack dab in the middle of his decision making process. Hmmm...

Aponte as GM would be the 1st female in said position makes sense.

Think about it post bully-gate...

1) It would satisfy the PC crowd & 2) positive press and lots of $$$.

Takes the sting out of the Wells Report somewhat.

Why would Pioli be any good? Because he is a former Pat? His only stint as a real GM was less than promising (Kansas City from 2009-2012).
Mangini? What would qualify him? His coaching record is less than stellar. What makes you think he would be a great talent evaluator.
