I was listening to Sirius Radio this morning and a caller said that Hank Goldberg reported that just before the trading deadline, someone offered us a second rounder for Williams and Nick turned it down. I know that this is old news, but since I hadn't heard it before, I was wondering if it was true.

I think if anyone had reported that it would have flooded this board and I dont remember anything.

If it is true then Nick must think very highly of Ricky. What new coach on a rebuilding team wouldn't want to stock up on draft picks.....

No way that it's true. A team wouldn't be dumb enough to give that much up for Ricky(atleast right now).

I really doubt it. James and Alexander couldn't get a second rounder in the offseason, I doubt someone offered us one for Ricky before he even started to look good.

I probably would have taken the 2nd round pick, even though I like Ricky. Weird if true

yeah even if we could trade ricky right now we wouldn't get a 2nd. back at the trade deadline he had yet to even establish he could even carry the ball more than 5 times a game.

I don't remember reading anything about it, but the announcers on Sirius indicated that they had heard it.... It was this morning around 9:45. The caller was from Florida and said that Hank reported it on his show....

When you trade a second rounder for James or Alexander, you assume the salary they command as well. Ricky is a bargain for any team that is anywhere near the salary cap......

OK. What is wrong with having 2 good players at the same position. I understand that folks would rather have 1 top flight back and fill another team need but I think we forget some facts at times.

1. No draft pick is a sure bet, Aubrey Beavers, who was supposed to be the star linebacker of our defense in the late 90's, was a 2nd rounder.

2. Losing your top flight RB to an injury could end your season. We've seen it happen.

I HOPE WE KEEP R&R.

Uhh, no, probabaly not. If Hank Goldberg said it, odds are it would get picked up. By someone. I sometimes listen to Fat Hank, and I usually end up catching the WQAM updates at least once per day, and I've never seen it.

Not at all. If we trade R.Williams, we would sign a backup like R.Dayne or N.Davenport and re-sign S.Morris. We would be alright.

Doubt it's true (or was reported). I think Nick would have taken that #2 pick in a heartbeat.

The only way I see this as being true is if there was a condition to the deal. Much like the deals for bottom-roster guys where the draft compensation is contingent on a guy making the roster or rushing for a certain amount of yardage, etc.

For Nick to turn down a #2 for Ricky, there would have to be a pretty big catch to the offer.
