I apologize if this was brought up in another thread, but I thought it was interesting how Marino mentioned every coach he played for since he was 10 except for Jimmy Johnson. He said Shula was the best coach of all time and then moved on.

I thought it was particularly interesting in light of the comments made a few weeks ago by Shula that Marino only had one pro coach.

Personally, I think Marino can thank who he likes and I not only understand him not mentioning Johnson who regularly clashed with Marino. But, it was. I think, a pretty noticeable omission and one last slap at Jimmy/Wanny.

I did'nt see it that way. Dan is above using this day in his honor to take a shot at JJ.

It was sooooooooo cool. I noticed it too, and smiled. JJ wasn't a part of the greatest day of a QB in Dolphins history.

However he'll have his moment next year, when Aikman gets in.

I think he did. Johnson didn't deserve to be mentioned. Sorry if anyone disagrees but Johnson made Marino's last few years miserable and caused Marino's productivity to suffer. Sure, Marino was on the decline. BUT he was alot better than Johnson made him look. I'm glad Marino didn't mention him. It wasn't that marino was "dissing" Johnson, I think it was just that, to Marino, JOhnson did nothing worth mentioning.

he mentioned people that had a positive influence....in his opinion...and I agree. The fact that JJ wasn't mentioned wasn't a slap.....and he shouldn't have to mention him.....it is his day and he was a class act 100%

That's exactly right! Dan would have never made it to the HOF if Johnson had coached his entire career. In fact he would have probably demanded a trade and wouldn't have been a Dolphin for very long. Credit where credit is due. Johnson did some good things for the Dolphins, but how he handled Marino was NOT one of them!

Its marinos day, if JJ gose to the hall of fame then he can thank who he wants, marino did not have to mention JJ, i agree what marino did, its his day he can mention who he wants

I just watched it again  and in no way do I feel that Dan went out of his way not to mentioned JJ. Some of you guys are reading way too much into this imo.

In all honesty, what did JJ do to influence Marino's development as a QB? Nothing
Marino was simply expressing gratitude to those individuals who helped him develop into a HOF QB. He was already a lock for the HOF before JJ took over.

I don't think he deliberately didn't mention JJ, I think it never crossed his mind to mention him.

I'm not suggesting a conspiracy, I just thought it was interesting that he mentioned every other coach but JJ. It just sticks out there a bit.

I don't think it was some huge deal, it was just mildly interesting. It suggests to me that Marino found nothing good to say about the last coach he played for, which I think says something by itself.

On a day when any athlete enters the Hall Of Fame he should thank whom ever he feels helped to get him there. Jimmy DID NOT help Dan get to the Hall Of Fame,he tried to do the opposite. And don't think for 1 second Dan does not realize Jimmy had a hand in the Dolphins demise. He threw Dave Wannstedt on us which undermined everything he (Jimmy) did when he was here.

He mentioned every coach that helped him develop into the QB that earned a spot in the HOF. Jimmy Johnson did nothing to improve Dan. Dan did the classy thing by NOT mentioning JJ. If he had, and was truthful, it really WOULD have been a dis.
