I found the breaking from training camp interesting. I can understand that he would make an adjustment on the # of two-a-days on the fly to save the players if he sees some lethargy setting in. And, we should expect Saban to be learning on the fly a bit.

However, I have to think he had this in the back of his mind. It certainly would be better to start out with the max # of days with the thought of reducing them, than to go in the opposite direction (which would be a negative psychologically). This move, however, is going to be a positive for the players. While I do think Saban is adjusting on the fly, to a degree, I have to think he had something like this in the back of his mind and that this was not a decision that just came up out of the blue.

It's a good move, imo. More than that, it's likely a move that was anticipated by Saban even before camp began.

Agreed, I believe this has been on his mind. Certainly, it will help him earn some loyalty from his players.

You have to be careful not to do things like this too often otherwise people start to expect it.

The flexibility and ability to adapt, plus # of asst coaches, will only help Saban make a successful crossover into the NFL. Spurrier, like so many others, try to be the same college coach in the NFL and it doesn't work all the time.

Not sure why Davis failed, he's smart and can coach and absolutely knows talent, but he maybe didn't surround himself with enough NFL guys.

Davis may have know talent, but that's one thing they didn't have in Cleveland. Every big pick they had was a bust.

I agree, but i'm sure he had certain goals and situations he wanted to meet first. If he and the team could meet them, then he'd pull the trigger, I beleive the team is right where he wants them and for that, they got rewarded. Shows these guys, hey, you go in there and give 100% all the time and you will be rewarded with more than just a W in the win column! I like the move too.

I don't think he was necessarily thinking about it, but he is trying to accomodate and preserve his players just a little bit.

How is this a good move when we have shown nothing in the pre season? We still look un prepared and really not that good of a team.

Then how can you say he knows talent?

He was the man in Cleveland. He can only blame himself for failing. He picked the coaches, he picked the players, he did everything.

Davis will probably get another chance in the NFL, so hopefully he will learn from his experience in Cleveland.

However, lets face it. JJ coaching tree has not produced any good HC.

Well both teams we have played we couldn't have gameplanned for. Usually you can't gameplan against a team that hasn't even had one game yet. At the time, Jax and Chicago hadn't had a game yet so you have no tape or anything to use to prepare. Plus, he was trying to see who stands out in the system without a gameplan. I will guarentee you that we will look even better against Pittsburgh. We should have a moderate gameplan in tact as well.

Actually i believe alot of it has to do with our extended preason...5 games to 4... that extra game gives alot of time to actually evaluate ...he figures that the heat and the longer tc would be bad for moral...He pushed them hard which is evident by what zach said about how tough these 2 1/2 weeks have been....so yes it was probably planned a while back .. but i think for those reasons.
