Did the Dolphins make an all-time franchise mistake?

they should start over trade suh, jones and thill17. there should be no player on this team making over 10 m.

This will never be correct. Never.

Go look at the 1998 draft. https://www.prosportstransactions.com/football/DraftTrades/Years/1998.htm

you obviously dont remember the draft. we made the trade before the draft even happened. Randy Moss was never there when we had our pick up. In fact JJ was mad he made the trade because he never thought vonnie holiday would make it to the pick and would of taken him instead. But at no point ever, were the dolphins on the clock and randy moss was available

Its like bizarro world. An urban myth that dolphin fans made up to wallow in their misery. We made the trade before the draft. How anybody could spin this any other way is baffling!

Kinda splitting hairs on the Randy Moss thing. I think everyone gets the point that if we have stayed put at our original pick, Moss would have been available, given the way the draft unfolded.

Next biggest mistake will be passing on baker mayfield if available

Is he going to work on that 4.6 speed? He also played outside 2 years due to injuries. He had 4 years to show he is a difference maker and for 4 years he was not.

Without Landry we won't be able to score 24 points a game anymore......oh wait, we've never scored 24 points per game with him

Ozzy rules!!

What about week 6 to 17 when the offense was clicking with Tannehill playing some of his best football due to finally having a coach not named Joe Philbin. Than with Moore coming in and playing admirably after Tanny went down. We averaged 25 ppg during that span. 2017...what could have been.

Landry made this very difficult. From all accounts he wasnt being reasonable.

1) Fins offered 13M per long term and he refused.
2) Landry refused every other long term deal offered to him, and straight up did not want to go to Cleveland who offered him a competitive long term deal.
3) Now this is what the best offer they got looked like. a 4th and a 7th for a player who is on a 1 year contract worth 16M.

Now you could make a point about trading him before the dead line. But since that boat has passed, what did you guys expect to happen? Landry's demands long term were out of whack, so they tagged him to try and get better value than the comp pick... They could have, some teams offered up to a 1st round pick for him BUT LANDRY refused every offers he got... The Fins cannot force Landry to sign a long term deal and Landry on a 1 year 16M deal is not worth much more than a bag of peanuts.

The play was to trade him at the dead line... Since then, I put has much blame on Landry and his agent than I do on the Fins... Simple as that, Landry screwed himself and now he's stuck in Cleveland, where he doesnt want to be....
So correct, but very few will listen to you.

Fun fact...RB Kenyan Dake(8) had more 20+ yards plays than WR Landry(6) in 2017... And Thats with Drake getting 4 total rushing attempts in the first 6 games of the season...

His doesn' even come close to the mistake of trading for dulpepper over signing brees in FA... Now that' a franhise changing mistake

Enlighten me on how this is not correct

Sure. As has been explained already ad infinitum:

"From Brad McNutt's post in the Landry trade thread (from ESPN):

"Miami could theoretically have held onto Landry and picked up a third-round compensatory selection, but it's not quite that simple. The Dolphins would have needed to sit out most of the free-agent period to avoid signing a player who would have cancelled out the compensation for Landry, which isn't exactly their style. I doubt Landry would have picked up a big enough deal to qualify for a third-round pick, which means Miami was likely looking at a fourth-round pick.

By making this trade, the Dolphins lock in a better fourth-round pick, get that selection a year earlier than they would through the comp market, and can make moves in free agency without having to worry about impacting the compensatory formula."
