Agents know that Miami is in dire need of CBs. Does that drive up the asking price for FA CBs when it comes to signing with Miami?

the front office are being Cheap son of *******
Really? You think so? Did you see the contracts Carey, Bell, Crowder and Grove got?

They are not being cheap, they are being smart and not overpaying for average talent. They want to sign good team players at bargain prices. Big name players are not what wins championships.

Look at what Miami did last year in the offseason. Anthony Fasano, Nate Jones, Davone Bess, Lousaka Polite, Akin Ayodele, etc. Not exactly household names. Though you put them all together and you get the AFC East champions.

We have some of the best minds in the game running the show and a owner who has shown he is letting the front office spend money. If Ross was being cheap, Carey, Crowder and Bell likely wouldn't have got the big deals they got to stick around.

Let the Jets and Bills sign the Owens and Favres' of the world. Miami will continue to build what they started with smart decisions. Everybody is worried about the cornerback position. It is March, the season starts in September.

With the McFadden signing being as little as it was, I think it had reverse effects and actually drove down the price of CB's

Drafting a top CB prospect such as Vontae Davis, Michael Jenkins, Alphonso Smith, or Sean Smith might help your secondary, but they need time to adjust to NFL wideouts. We need a proven veteran (not too old) corner to come in and help bolster our secondary. As of now, the only free agent name that's worth going after is Leigh Bodden; and with the way the cornerback market is drying up, we can't afford to be too much more patient. Bodden, not a huge prima donna/superstar name, would be a steal right now. The guy can play and hopefully won't cost TOO much, as in over 5-6 mill a year.

This is a great post. There are so many people worried about the about getting FA's to counteract anything anyone else does in the division...almost in an immediate response. You build your team based on your own beliefs not in response to a FA aquisition by another team. If there was anybody that would instantly upgrade our secondary and was truly worth their price, I'm sure the front officewould try to sign them, but at this point it hasn't happend.

supply & demand drives every market

I think we will attempt to resolve the problem in the draft.
However, I don't think we will definitively find the answers to our many problems delivered up neatly packaged & delivered to us in a great big aqua & orange party box with a ribbon on it in 2009. You (rhetorically speaking) are naive if you think we can fix everything without taking the time to find, sign & develop the talent we need to consistently compete @ the next level.

they may very well, and probably will, draft a CB, but he cant take on all the great WRs we're playing next year on his own. what about when we play a spread offense, we will be torched.

i do agree that we have to trust parcells but there comes a point were we have to face reality yeah you dont build through free agency but we just cant go out onto the field with allen, allen, jones and some rookie. honestly i think parcells and co. have gotten a little ****y.

so all you guys rather start a rookie CB rather than starting a veteran and proven one? c'mon man!!!!!!!!

Who has said the answer is a free agent cornerback?

No one but I implied it but Im also not brilliant enough to be paid put together a competitive NFL team.

Since you are implying that no Veteran CB is needed and a draft pick is the answer who is your Rookie pick that will start and do a good job of covering Welker/Moss/Evans/Owens?

We can't react to what other teams do in the league and what our division does. We could rush out now and sign a big name cornerback to mega millions just to try and compensate for Moss and Owens, or we could step back and just continue doing what works. We could pay a lot of money for a free agent cornerback and they could end up being the next Reggie Howard.

We could tie up a lot of money in an average cornerback and watch him fail here and end up paying for it for years. Meanwhile, Owens will likely be out of Buffalo come the 2010 season. I would rather take my chance and get a young talented corner in the draft then an average free agent veteran. We are building for the long term, not just 2009.
