For quite sime time I thought that there was more to Nick leaving with his tail between his legs than just deciding to leave. WIth Nicks ego and his control freak perosnality it seemed out of character not to address the media with merely chnging his mind or doing what was right for his family...the latter he could have played a sympathy card. I think that around the time the rumors started about Bama (similar time Dave "resigned") that Wayne had a talk with him and told him things would change; such as the way employees were treated, and total negativity and hostility he showed towards the press. I don't see Wayne (a mega successful business man) letting those Nickisms degrade the Dolphins any more. So I can see him telling Nick if you don't like the way it's going to be, you can take the highway...so at least I see it as possible that he was pushed out. THat makes sense to me on why Nick was pissed/tail between his legs/shattered ego and departed the way he did; it may also explain why Wayne was so pro press during the announcement saying that he even wanted input/ideas from the press; if not why such an emphasis on the press aspect by Wayne at a time that the emphasis would have been elsewhere...he new that Nick had ruined that relationship and that it was so poor that he said he wanted input. Anyone else have this whole scenerio cross their mind? I'm sick of Nick threads too and yet here I am starting one, but I had wondered this and I was curious if anyone else had thought about the possibility. Disclaimer: any spelling errors are merely typos from typing too fast:)

Ill tell you I did not think about that scenerio but i give it credibility as a reasonable possibility. If so good for Wayne.

just a sad chapter all the way around. let's put it behind us and focus on the future... Cam sure is...

It's a good conspiracy theory, but Wayne knew what he was getting into when he hired Saban. It was no secret how he treated the press and such, and he bought into him just like we all did. I think he is doing things differently now because it's obvious Saban was a failure, and why stick with what doesn't work?

It could be. Or Wayne wanted those things to changed, heard Saban was planning to leave for 'Bama, thought "good, let him go" and moved on from there.

The reason it has some merit is that it seems to be Waynes "modus operandi", if you look back at Shula's situation, it seems Wayne likes to let the coach save as much face as possible. It was also true in the Wannstedt situation.

Does anybody here believe that either of those two weren't forced out?

I believe that you may have a very valid point.

I don't think he fired him, however, as a smart businessman he clearly did not want someone who did not want to be here. Therefore, he did nothing to keep him.

Here's the thing with Saban, and why something like that should NEVER happen again.......... Saban didn't really WANT to be here, he was talked into it or convinced that it would work and it was a good situation. It really never works out when a team highly recruits a coach and it takes that much to get them. It shouldn't be that way, a team/owner should not be trying to convince a coach to come join the team, but a coach should be trying to convince the team that they are the right person for the job and they they WANT to be there.

Fire Saban just to hire Cameron. I'm not knocking Cam....but it just seems illogical. Sides, we all know Wayne likes big names.

Same here.... I didn't realize towards the end how he was with the press and how so many in the organization felt relieved when he was gone. I know Belichek is no amazing guy when he speaks to the press, but he is in complete control and will not address anything he does not want to.
Hearing that Zach Thomas almost went after Saban in practice after he questioned his manhood..... I think nothing of Saban.

Makes sense to me. I've run some employees out that weren't cutting it by changing their comfort zones on the job.

Question?

Do you believe Shula and Wannstedt both resigned as the press and public were told? Or do you Believe they were forced out?

If you believe the latter, why would you doubt Saban was forced out?

I can agree, but, what about the whole alabama thing...You think after Nick was going to be "fired" he had his agent call alabama...Its just ironic how alabama first came into the picture, and then Nick left. I think it is more feasible that Alabama came into the picture, then Wayne said this is bad press and "fired" him, moreso than Wayne firing him, then he having his agent call Bama, then leaving...
