Rumors on ESPN have Atlanta taking Ryan even if Dorsey is there. I'm not complaining about Jake as I like him, but if we continued to float the idea that we were taking Ryan, maybe would could have secured their pick and a 2nd and still ended up with Jake by making Atlanta trade up to 1.

We may have, they are even talking now that the Ravens are trying to trade up to get Ryan, and that they will have to give up a lot of pics in order to move up just 5 or 6 spots.

is easy to say that now but we got our guy and he won't be holding out....he'll be there from day 1 and that's hugh for us.

Ozzy rules!!

I think the trade off was getting him in early as mentioned. Probably on the smart side, the time table had enough days to have a plan B (Chris Long according to reports) that could also be signed in advance and be wrapped up before the draft. Maybe not the absolute lottery hit of how to play a pick, but getting a guy signed for a "reasonable" price and have him locked up from day one is a great job by our front office in my opinion.

There are 2 points to remember when considering this.

1) Jake is signed to a shorter contract than last year's #1, so we shouldn't have salary cap problems until the end of his contract, by which time either he'll have earned the salary or be willing to accept less, which should help our salary cap situation at that time.

2) He's signed and will be available immediately, so he should be able to start for us day 1 of his rookie season at LT. With offensive lines it often is as much chemistry as it is talent. Getting these guys playing alongside one another ASAP is going to determine how we do next year and the years after. This is also why I see us drafting a starting LG somewhere in the 2nd-4th round this year.
