Dion Jordan - Elephant Position? (Julius Peppers)

I've tried to explain this to Dr. Phin many times so good luck. He just doesn't get it or understand that one player can be an enormous asset by being able to play multiple positions depending on the down and distance/scheme of the defense while never having to leave the field.

And what you don't get is that I don't see them doing that with him. I see maybe just more of what we saw last year, but nowhere near the number of downs you think.

Its good that the Elephant position as well as C Haley were mentioned. Its been my understanding that this position is similar to the wide 9 technique the Lions use.

p.s. Why isn't Haley in the HoF???

Because Haley was absolutely bat **** crazy. Couldn't trust him to make a speech without pulling out his junk

Why don't you think that after getting stronger, more acclimated to the NFL and having more time to learn every defensive position in the book they want him to play with another offseason that his playing time won't increase? Especially with the impact he had last year, in his limited role due to an NFL season that was cut short/hampered by an injury that didn't allow him to fully participate in practice/games early in the season.

It just doesn't make sense.

Also, Coyle wants to be able to put pressure on the QB/offense from all different positions and Wake/Vernon/Jordan will all be an instrumental part of that. So wanting to trade either of them is a dead end theory as well. If you get rid of one of those players it takes away the element of surprise from the defense which is it's greatest advantage.

I'm all for them getting him out there as much as possible but seriously, who comes up with these position names?!

I believe this is the complete opposite.

You keep Vernon and Wake on the field and Jordan moves around the box maximizing his playing time. DE one play, LB next play, Rush OLB, play after that, Covering TE's on 3rd down, etc...

Instead of "forcing" Jordan into the traditional 4-3 DE with his hand in the ground, you allow him to play just about every position in the front 7.

More of a "all time" situational player. Jordan is on the field at all times, but with different roles and different position posibilities. This type of versatility blows up the playbook to the extreme.

That's how I feel, just play him everywhere allowing the 3 of them to get a good amount of snaps.

Because John Randle, Warren Sapp, M Irvin, & Deion are all stable, sane individuals?
