So I got curious... If Ross is so bad at running a football franchise, what does the culture at his main business look like. So I took a look at the Glassdoor reviews for Related Companies. Seems like there is a common theme between Related and the Dolphins... rewarding failure.

“Real estate joke ”
Current Employee - Supervisor in New York, NY
I have been working at Related Company full-time (more than 10 years)
Pros
Lazy people stayed employed here.
Cons
No raise ever; no 401k match.
Advice to Management
Give raise to your good workers that know more than you and care about the company.
“Incompetent District and Regional Manager(s) ”
Former Employee - Anonymous Employee in Chicago, IL
I worked at Related Company full-time
Pros
RELATED offers great benefits, is extremely generous with days off for being sick, and provides days off for all holidays.
Cons
The district and regional level managers that RELATED Management Co., LP hired between 2012-current are incompetent, conceited, condescending and completely unqualified. As well, RELATED prides itself on being a 'respect-based management company', however, the district and regional manager(s) do not, in any way, cultivate a respect-based management environment. The district and regional manager(s) have this attitude of 'do as your told and not as I do'. Further, there is no one holding them accountable. Since no one is holding them accountable, they are able to make horrible decisions with absolutely no consequences. As well, since they are the individuals that relay all the information to those above them, no one ever discovers that they are making poor decisions. Those above them are clueless to the fact that majority of site level staff are very unhappy, most site staff feel they are not being treated fairly/equally and an unfriendly culture has been created where employees are over-worked, under-appreciated and treated poorly by district and regional level staff members who, if had to manage the properties that they are mistreating, would fail miserably because they lack the knowledge and experience necessary.
Advice to Management
Advice for senior manager and higher: Hold district/regional manager(s) accountable and maintain an equal employment opportunity culture and not a title employment opportunity culture. Advice to district/regional manager(s): acknowledge the fact that you lack knowledge, acknowledge the fact that your site employees are more knowledgeable than you are, show appreciation (genuine appreciation) to your site staff and work on ways to improve site staff happiness. Wearing a suit, or dressing professionally, does not make you a professional. Also, regurgitating information does not mean you are knowledgeable. Knowledge comes with time and professionalism is having knowledge and being a great people person and someone that others aspire to be like and want to work for. And, lastly, SHAME ON YOU! You took a great company that most loved working for and turned it into a horrible environment. I am sure that if changes are not made soon, many good site employees will leave. Then, all that will remain will be a group of terrible district/regional manager(s) with new employees who they will train to be as horrible as they are.

Pros
Nothing good to say about this pathetic company.
Cons
It's so sad that these employees think this is a great company to work for. I don't know how to describe this place other than to say its just miserable. You dont feel like you're part of a group, you are locked in your office/cubicle all day, with no interaction with other employees. The place is under staffed, people are over worked and there is not enough office space for new employees, consultants, auditors (and this is a real estate business). They have zero social gatherings to make you feel like part of a team. Their holiday party is the saddest I've seen, where people get their food from the conference room and then take it back to their cubes to eat and continue working. Wow.

Pros
Looks good on your resume. Top of the line development projects, the product practically sells itself!
Cons
Management's inability to communicate effectively with employees. Very minimal training, you're expected to 'just pick it up' with no room for trial and error. Building staff is great and staff as a whole will get each other through some tough spots in the learning curve but don't expect anything from management, not even a straight answer to a simple question! Lots of passive aggressive behavior from some in management staff. Management will throw you under the bus in a NY minute in an attempt to cover up their own incompetence. Management encourages an elitist attitude but the salary doesn't warrant this behavior.
Advice to Management
Life doesn't have to be so miserable. Leave the personal stuff at the front door and arm your staff with the tools they need to succeed and positivity. Adults should always treat each other with respect, not like barbarians! Related is a great company but what's carrying it now is the quality of the product certainly not the people running it, who let emotion and personal opinion rule over logic.
