...to complain at players, abuse them, and all the negative stuff that goes with it?

Me and a friend were talking about it, and it seems like some people can happily run their mouth off on players, abusing them etc etc even though they themselves haven't done a day of proper work in their life?

Taking Ginn as the obvious example (I'm not giving an opinion, just using him as an example), its fair to say he's hated. But he's out there training hard through the year, and has to stand on that field with 70,000 people screaming at him to make a play, and also line up against the like guys like Ray Lewis and such. There's a lot of pressure and fear there, so is it really fair for some who have never done anything like that say "he's a waste of space" and discard him like that?

But then, if he's getting paid all that money, getting that lifestyle and media attention, then it's all OK and that's just part of what comes with the job of playing football at a pro level.

Just intrested to know if people think fans have that right, or have even thought about it before?

I think yes, we absolutely have the right. Ultimately without us fueling the demand for pro athletes they wouldn't be making all that money to begin with. Have I ever played a game in the NFL? No. I've never even been on a football field beyond High School. But as a fan, I still feel as though I'm justified to demand a quality product, or player in this instance, be on the field.

Look at the president. Obviously I've never been one (though look for me on the 2013 ballot) but I'm certainly within my rights to demand a quality product in that area. In fact it's my duty. Same goes for fans of a particular sport. It's my right, nay my duty, as a fan to demand success on the field come Sunday.

But that's just my opinion.

Of course they do. Criticism comes with the territory of people who sell, or help to sell, tickets to the public for public entertainment- actors, musicians, athletes, take your pick. It's happens all the time, and you can never forget the fact of the outrageous money that many of these people are paid- the performers know that criticism and praise come with the territory.

A college professor of mine once said, "Football is the opiate of the American people." I think that he's right, and in a broader sense you could substitute sports for football. People love watching football and praising/criticising players. It's a great diversion from the problems of daily life. Get used to it. And your comment about the critics never having worked a proper day in their lives is just silly.

The best thing about your post is the picture of the UPS babe.

You have the right to do it, strictly speaking. But it's nothing to be proud of if you do.

At the end of the day, this forums' sole purpose is to provide a place where fans can air their frustrations. Yes, sometimes I question peoples way of expressing themselves and some people can be too negative and derogatory. But, for the most part I think that people have the right to give the opinions on the team the love and the players they "hate" because sport is all about passion. That is my opinion.

1. They put themseves in the draft, so they could be NFL pro football players.
2. An NFL team is nothing without its fans.
3. You as a fan pay for the tickets to go into the staduim, buy merchandise, so you are an active part of the team, so you must ask for quality, you want your team to have everything you are paying for..
4. Forget about Ted Gin.... Remember Wanny... Fletcher.... Lucas... Feeley... don't you get mad they are getting all those bucks to be so freaking lame... as lame as a Process Engineer working as a Lawyer... and suddenly he will be the one to represent you in court...

Yes the fans have the right. No dpubt about it. This game doesn't exsist without the fans. We pay for the tix, the souviners, and b/c we watch the networks pay big bucks to put these games on tv. All of these players could have done something else. They are paid big time money to play a game. They are expected to produce. When they don't, it's the fans right to be vocal. Don't you think a player would be pissed if he did something great and the fans didn't cheer. Damn right he would. So this street goes both ways. If they don't perform, they know they're gonna get booed.

American values are obviously a bit skewed. But professional sport exists in its present form because fans graciously support the institution. The fan will consistently dawn their jersey, attend games, purchase food and root their brains out. The sports fan, just like citizens in society, are the most important element of the equation yet simultaneously the most under appreciated.

Professional sport franchises are largely privately owned publicly subsidized entities. In essence this makes the fan a stock holder. Every ticket, jersey, and hot dog fans purchase help to subsidize the athletes they cheer for.

To answer your question, I think Fans have the right to criticize athletes. Sports provides an escape from the rigors of society and it makes us feel good. American sport is too embedded in the fabric of this country. The fans love sports and will continue to support institution irrespective of its flaws.

I have a pair of season tickets plus I pay for the Sunday Ticket so I KNOW I have the right.

And we have the right to party..................:rimshot:

We have the right to complain and be critical of the players

We should never abuse them...

We should never touch them or their property like up in Buffalo

Respect them, but Yes..critize them and the coaching....

We were here first most of them..

Players and coaches come and go

They have to earn our respect...

We should not leave them if they are playing poorly or if they get tough breaks...

We must analyze....

We have to be responsible as fans

It depends on the situation & the player. Fans always have the right to criticize, but I do find that a lot of times the people who are quickest to get nasty are the same people who don't really know a lot about the NFL or the Dolphins.

I think the bigger issue is how nasty the media can sometimes be. I remember when Brian Griese replaced Elway with the Broncos. He played great, he went to a probowl his first year, but the media were incredibly nasty & vitriolic about him from day one.

The local dolphins media here aren't very knowledgable about football, just look at the types of questions that they consistantly ask when they get access to coaches & players.

In Ginn's case it is deserved. He has cost the Dolphin's games. Last year there was more than one game that was almost won until Ginn blew calls where the ball was thrown his way. This year there are already 2 games.

If you are a true Dolphin fan not only is it your right I would say it’s your responsibility to criticize the players, team, owner, and even the media. None of which would even exist if it wasn’t for the fans that spend crazy amounts of money, energy and time on football (and sports in general).
A player entering the NFL is similar to a person entering the field of politics, you know you are going to be a public figure and there are certain things that come with the territory. The number one thing being public opinion, so if people want to call into radio stations or post on message boards that Ginn is a soft little girl with stone hands good for them, just as long as they don’t threaten him or anyone else it is fair game.

The owner may own the team, the players may play for the team and the front office may collect a check from the team.. But what they seem to forget is I have seniority... I've been a fan a lot longer than they have been an employee, so I think I deserve respect and right to say what I feel is right..

To many of them, being on this team is just a paycheck and their chance at fame.. To me, the success and failure of this team means much much more... When they win, my spirit is elevated.. when they lose, a part of me dies..

Damn right I have the right to voice my opinion...

They do have the right, just as long as it doesn't cross the line. Don't physically attack players, don't threaten their families, or vandalize their property, etc. I'm angry at Ginn because as much talent as he has it's so damn frustrating too see him perform the way he has. So, the criticism is definately warranted. The labels, the name calling, the cursing, it's all warranted. However, I'll never cross that "line."
