This whole Pennington thing bugs me. The Packers refused to release Favre, because even though there are committed to Aaron Rodgers, the know Brett still has some game. They did not want him ending up with a division rival, so they stood firm and traded him to a team outside of the division. This was very smart on their part, plus they actually got something in return for him.

So, knowing there is a strong chance that Pennington ends up with their division rival Dolphins, why do they simply release him? Why not trade him? Am I missing something here, or do they know something we don't? If the guy had anything left in the tank, I think they would have done more to keep him away from division rivals, where he could come back to bit them. I think Pennington is washed up. I think he has run his course and the Jets know it. They don't care where he ends up, because they know he can't hurt them. I think it is a mistake to bring him in. We have two young, talented QBs and we are in a position where nobobdy expects much from us. I'd rather go 4-12, while learning what we have from each of our young QB's than go 5-11 or even 6-10 with a QB that seems to be at the end of his career.

Didn't we try this last year?

Trade him to who? Pennington didn't have much trade value at this point because teams know he isn't the man in NY. Plus, they had to make room for Brett the Jet, and sure as heck weren't going to let Chad waste any reps in practice if it dragged on for a few days.

Plus this gives the other guys more reps in the game tonight.

The only way to get Farve's contract under the cap they HAD to release Pennington by 4pm today and lose his cap numer.

No more to it than that.

So we are basically picking up a Jets rejct/outcast.

Who knows, you may very well be right. Although the thought of a experienced qb that comes in and provides some veteran leadership is attractive...i am very tentative. Chad is only one hit away from the ir. The idea that the jets know exactly what they are giving up and don't care, especially to a division rival is scary. buyer beware

Well packers(a playof contendor) didn't want to let favre go cause they know favre is better than rodgers, and they didn't want the playoff contendor teams in thier division to bite them in the butt. Jets know favre is better than penningtion, they know what they had in pennington(injuries and what not).Non-playoff contendors in the division (i.e. bills and dolphins) are not one chad pennington away from being a contendor, so why not release him to free up the cap room to pay favre's contract?

Couple tidbits on Chad Penington:
-Sickest completion percentage in the league over the last few years.
-Very good play action(w/ the R&R express would be really nice.)
-Above average winning percentage as a QB
-Weak but accurate arm
-Injury prone Stopgap
-More accomplished than any QB on the dolphins(not saying much there huh...lol)

Thank You for sabing the explanation.

I'll tell you one thing i know they don't.. I am predicting that Farve will stink it up in the big apple and the media will ROAST him up there.

He's now a primadonna. His precious ego needs to seduced and coddled. Oh it's love now.. but just wait till the all time INT leader starts INTing all over the place..

Bring out the hounds!
