I just heard it and think he did it on purpose. Two reasons, 1st he delayed before saying it which is generally a sign of thinking over your words, it was a small pause but long enough for someone wth his expierace speaking to question about. Second, anyone expieranced in speaking in a manor they have to give lets say 75% the correct info and 25% info to be avoided has certain "hot points"that keys them to avoid, JI just jumped right in which is unlikely for an intelligent person with a heavy speaking background.

Your thought?

I didn't actually hear the press conference, but I think it was done on purpose. It has been said before, but any decent poker player knows that purposefully giving off false tells is common practice, and I believe that is exactly what this was.

Everyone suddenly seems to "know" that Jake Long is going to be the pick, this was merely an attempt to throw them off the scent.

Not that it really matters one way or the other...I read that the Dolphins PR guy practices questions before any of the top Dolphins brass gives a PR...so believe what you want.

To me it's either J. Long or a trade...if a trade...it doesn't matter that the Dolphins haven't talked contract with any other player...they can't...if that player isn't the first pick.

I think it was done on purpose to speed along the Jake Long negotiations. With the draft only being a week from now, I think we will see Jake Long agreeing to a contract.

I reality it does not matter. I mean really the boards are set and you are the first pick.

There is really no reason for the first overall to be that much of a smoke screen because you are not fooling anyone..

If anything it was done on purpose not for the other teams, media or anything like that BUT for Jake Long and his agent.

The Issue you are having is Jake and His agent both know he will be selected 2nd if not first. So will wait to get the money he thinks he deserves being the first overall

The real Bluffing happens with the Picks After Yours

Jeff Ireland said something wrong?

Your killing me here. I can not get to a tv, etc. So JI=Jeff Ireland? So slip=said something wrong? Well what did he say?!?

Thanks in advance for the info.

Ireland said in a press conference yesterday that the player we pick at number one should be "the pillar of our defense" for years to come. The media then started laughing, and then he correct himself by saying "pillar of our offense or defense." Now people are debating whether it was intentional or truely a slip of the tongue.

Ireland said that with the 1st pick the Dolphins will be looking to draft a pillar of their defense.

From the Sun Sentinel:

"I'm going after the player that best fits us. I don't want bad guys on my team. Of course, I want guys with great upside. This is the first pick of the draft. You hope that this guy is going to be a pillar of your defense for a long time," he said.

AAHHhhh....SSoooooo, said the China-man

the only was is WASNT a slip was if we were still interested in trade out and wanted someone to bit to trade up and get a defensive guy like long or gholston. Since we have the #1 pick there is no other possible reason because we dont HAVE to fool anyone about who we are gonna pick to get someone to fall to us. It was either a slip (which isnt a big deal cuz we have the #1 pick) or he is really wanting to trade out of the pick (which i heard they arent wanting to very much anymore unless they get a huge offer.

OR it could be to get jake long to accept a lower contract because he would be afraid of us picking someone else besides him.

If you have seen the interview he looked like he let on slip, by the way he stumbled for an answer after the press said "Defense..you said defense..HAHAHAHA"

I'm afraid it wasn't a slip. I'd be very disappointed inf we didn't get Jake Long. He just looks like such a perfect fit for the dolphins. if we didn't get him and got Matt Ryan I'd be okay with that. But I honestly would feel disappointed if we got Gholston or C. Long. I'd feel as if we're neglecting our poor offense. After last year I don't want another WTF moment.
