no...some go in to some games just to collect a pay check...especially once they are eliminated or they see the writing on the wall that they aren't good enough to win anything...and some play to not get hurt...

Thats funny, people motivate themselves different ways. I always had to feel I was the underdog to totally get into the game. If I was the favorite I never got motivated to play my best. I think overconfidence is the most common emotion in sports. But there is definitely too sides to the coin.
I'm absolutely positive not every single player goes into every game thinking they are going to win. A lot of guys play for the paycheck. Then there are also the realists who realize how unlikely it is for them to win a certain game (e.g. Saints vs. Rams), but they still play hard in spite of the odds. I can almost guarantee you though that if you go into a game thinking you are going to lose, then you probably will.
