It's all doom and gloom right now regarding the Miami Dolphins and rightfully so. We've played terribly these first few weeks. People have talked about wanting to lose to the Jets so we can finally ridbourselves of Philbin and Coyle. As much as I'm sick of our terrible coaching, I haven't given up hope yet and could never root against our boys.

The Jets are a tough matchup for us, no doubt. But hypothetically, if we win, is there reason for optimism going forward. Are we really this bad of a football team? The AFC doesnt look too tough this year and perhaps 9-7 could get us a wildcard.... If we win this Sunday what's your feeling surrounding the Dolphinsbgoing forward. What unit do you have faith in getting it together quicker, the offense or defense?

It should, good teams get better later in the season. you'd be 2-2 after major struggles.

2-2 after major struggles is fine record-wise, but there's no reason to believe the ship will be righted. This staff hasn't shown the ability to fix problems...just keep on keeping on doing the exact same thing.

I want 2-2 over 1-3. After that is Tennessee and Houston. Those games are before the gauntlet of at Pats, at Bills, and at Eagles. If Miami loses to the Jets and/or the Titans/Texans, the season is already done.

****ing fun.

it probably should but it really wont in my mind because after YEARS of waiting I will just be waiting for the inevitable collapse.. (and i thought this year would be different)..

i'm 49 yrs old and have watched this team for a long time, never missing a game since 1984 or so.. I've traveled down to miami every year since 1998 for a game and this year I refuse to pay to see this team this yr (i'm holding out hope they turn it around so i can fly down to the Balt game). i'm almost numb to this team right now

Psychologically you are ASKING FOR ABUSE if you start believing this team has a "positive future" (of any limited scope) as long as Philbin is HC.

Seriously, if you can't see how bad Philbin is as a HC at this point you deserve to driven hard and put up wet yet again!

Yea, we beat the Jets and we're really going places!

NOT!

Don't be bamboozled by your own homerism! It's time to look forward in a positive way. Past the sham of Philbin with some reasonable chance of landing a legit HC. Anything more than that, at this point, is a pipe dream.

No. One win doesn't turn a bad team into a good team, nor does one win turn a poorly coached team into a well coached team, nor does one win break us out of a cycle of mediocrity that has been going on for years.

I'm optimistic. I mean, at 2-2 we'd be able to give more freedom to Tannehill to...oh wait...

Well, yeah I mean I know he doesn't have much time to throw, but at 2-2 the team could...

Okay, okay YES Tannehill's O-line stinks, but on the bright side our D could stop those...

I need opinions on this... Does Ross fire Philbin right away if we startb1-3 ? I sincerely hope so

A win is not a win. If both teams play like **** this week and the Dolphins manage to eke it out by playing slightly less like **** that doesn't say anything positive about the team. If we put up a Philbin's not around chargers style asswhooping then yeah that would have some meaning. But you'd be a sucker to go in for just the win. There has to be a serious performance behind it.

Philbin will be fired immediately if they're 1-3 so the new coach has the bye to prepare.

Depends how we do it. If we come out slow and the Jets run the ball effectively but the Dolphins still find a way to pull out a win, then I'll continue to be a skeptic. My skepticism isn't related to starting 1-2; it's because we've looked bad and it's the exact same problems Philbin-coached teams have displayed for the last three seasons.

Now, on the other hand, if the Dolphins come out strong, play physical football with fire right out of the gate, force the Jets into third and long and get the defense off the field, then mix the run and pass, I'll start to have hope they can turn this around. But it's going to take more than one game like that to make me a believer.
