This may seem like a rant post, well it is. But it's about 10 minutes before tip-off for the National Championship game and this must be said.

Everywhere I go, any state in the U.S. I always see somebody wearing Carolina gear. Why is that? why do they proclaim that they "LOVE" UNC and always say "My Team" when talking about them? I'd be willing to bet that more than 70% of people who proclaim to love UNC hasn't started to like them until they have started to be amazing the past few years.

This really upsets me

Does anybody else hate UNC for that reason?

I hate them alot i love MJ but hate unc i hope michigan st. comebacks and kills them

Colin Cowherd had Digger Phelps on his show yesterday morning and they brought up a good point.

How many players on Michigan State's team would start for North Carolina?

Unanimous answer was: 0

A couple of generations of success and a very large alumni base creates a great number of supporters and seems to bring out the detractors as well. I don't see how you can hate this team though.....they're a great group of kids.

Teams that constantly win, I hate. See New England Patriots

I've seen enough bandwagon UNC fans the past 5 years to last me a life time. They refer to UNC as "WE". And fans talk crap when they beat a sub .500 team. I'd hope they can, they constantly get the best players from H.S. every year

I can't speak for all fans of the team, but alumni and those attending the school certainly do refer to UNC as we and see the players as our representatives. I think most who attend the school attain a certain amount of pride and relish seeing the athletes in tar heel blue reach sporting pinnacles.

I do understand that the fans love the underdog and the hatred of Carolina that goes along with that, but at the same time would love it if people would look at these kids as student athletes and not as professional entertainers. Maybe at places like Memphis they've completely given up all illusions of amateur athletics but UNC players do go to class and they do graduate. Some of them may be superb athletes who will earn millions as professionals, but most aren't, and will use this as a vehical to a free education and employment after graduation.

I have no problem at all with current students and alumni calling UNC "we". I attend West Virginia University and I refer to it as "us" and "we". I hate people my age who have never even been in the state of NC refer to UNC as "We"

btw: my older sister in a UNCC graduate, and she loves UNC and gives me crap all the time. But she honestly can name alot of the players and i believe she's even attended a few games...She's done alot more than alot of those so called UNC fans have.

No knock on you or your university, but it's the fans that make me hate UNC. Or the posers and I like to call them

I will DEFEND UNC!

You have to separate fans from the program. I'm not a big fan of the Texas Longhorns because of one particular guy but I can't really hate on them. The have a great program. Gorgeous city in Austin, Texas. Great head coach. Great tradition. But every fan base has its share of goobers. Even small crap programs like North Dakota have a few gutterballs for fans. It's all about how much we interact with them and how many we know in our particular region. I don't know a lot of Southern Cal fans out here but I'm sure that if I were on the west coast I would meet a few that rub me the wrong way.

And you can't really hate teams for winning all the time either. That's just financial and success envy. Obviously, teams like the Spurs, Patriots, and Tarheels are onto something. Everyone likes a winner when it's them or something they've always rooted for. But when it's someone else winning, it's mostly jealousy.

And I have no problem with the "we" or "us" thing either. It's "we" in spirit. "We" pump our hard-earned money into these schools and these franchises. Technically we're a part of it because we're the driving force behind the success of these programs and franchises. Players and coaches recognize the fans as part of "them" so why not?

Southern Cal fans are terrible. Absolutely terrible. None of the ones north of LA became fans until 2004.

Same goes for Kalifornia-Berkeley "fans". 95% of them became fans when UK became good and the Raiders/Niners began to falter. Football didn't exist for them until 2003.
