Brock Berlin showed me a little spark tonight that I didn't think he had. For someone who was suppose to be camp filler he played pretty good and drove for what should have been a game winner but for that last underthrown ball. Yeah a bad pass but he moved the ball down to scoring position with under 2 minutes to play and had the team under his control for that drive. Quick reads and good throws until the int. I think he makes the team. He played better than Rosenfels without the experiance. I am an AJ fan as he played his high school ball about 40 miles from my house, but I have to say he doesn't look like he is going to make it. He panics when he is blitzed. He is going to make to many mistakes for Saban's patience.

You do realize that by the time Berlin was playing the Bears had also put in their late round picks and walk-ons?

I knew when he had to drive late in the 4th that they would go all-shotgun for that drive. Brock Berlin is mediocre under center, but throughout his career at the U, he has been DEAD ON...as much as Canes fans hate him. I also knew that he would move the football. The INT cant be totally blamed on him, because had this been the regular season, the play-calling wouldve been a lot more conservative (we werent playing to tie up the game tonight)...but that aside, he did throw a pick late, which certainly didnt help his case.

He has the tools to succeed, but his head has never entirely been in the game and he needs to be better under center. I think he puts up a fight with Sage for the 3rd spot. He certainly is a lot better than Clint Stoerner ;)

Sage didn't play that bad either. I think Berlin might end up on the PS, but he'll have to do a lot more than what he did tonight to make the team.

Thanks for the analysis. I agree that he played better from the shotgun so he could see the field better. For no more practice and being a free agent he played as well as any of the qbs.

He might make the practice squad or something, he could be a 4th string emergency QB but right now i dont think he does. I'd like to see him beat out Sage but he'd have to play much much better....

It was a fair fight then because Berlin is a walk-on himself.

brock made a couple of very nice throws i was really impressed it just seems that when the defence blitz's feeley panics.brock showed some leadership skills tonight i always thought he can play he will make this team i truley belive that and saban loves this kid watch out with good coaching which he now has this kid could really surprise some people.

Well who did we have out there?

Not if he keeps throwing INT's he won't.

Outside of that I thought he had a good 1st game.

Maybe some truth to what you are saying. Saban knew he wouldn't get drafted and could pick this kid up on the cheap. Makes passing over Orton a little less painful. Orton looks like he could push Grossman in a year or two.

practice squad. maybe if he improves from there and we let Feeley or Frerotte go after this season (and pick up a draft/FA QB) he could step up to #3. if...if....if....
