For those of you knowledgable (hayden fox/daytona fin, etc) of the situation, how much blame can be put on Benton the offensive line coach for continuing to throw out the garbage that they throw out every Sunday, with no improvement. Billy Turner, Dallas Thomas, Fox, etc no one developed into even a serviceable player…………..is it scheme, player related, coaching…..player personnel directors?????

I still see Dallas Thomas getting walked back into the quarterback and Jason Fox simply failing to engage the DE at times, but really the biggest problem I see is that we often double team one rusher while another guy gets a clean shot at the QB. I assume they are being coached to pick up blocking assignments the way that they do? Because it's completely insane to me that every week, we see this stuff happen over and over again.

So yeah, I personally think that this is a coaching issue.

At some point you have to put it on the o-line coach. I think...

I'll give you three options:

1. We're incapable of finding credible offensive linemen.

2. We're incapable of competently coaching offensive linemen who aren't exceptional to begin with (i.e. Albert).

3. Our offensive line is actually really good at pass protection and 17 just sucks really hard and 2.3 seconds is a perfectly acceptable time to have to throw before pressure.

Well....I'm not sure who Benton is going to put in there other than these guys. I think this is a talent issue mostly.

I think it is a combination of poor talent, crap blocking scheme, and a OL coach that doesn't care anymore.

im going with option 2.

I'd go with 1 and 2. An untalented unit with poor coaching.

HAs he actually made anybody on our line better though.

I honestly can't say if he has or not.....

But my point was, that the guys he is starting are better than anyone else we have available. So I would first have to point to the talent. I mean, perhaps there is a better scheme or technique he can teach....but getting bull rushed right back into the QB's face is more on the players.

O-line will improve when we get James back from injury. He is better than Fox. Dallas Thomas still struggles at times, but he may be the best alternative that we currently have.

Not running the ball enough makes it look worse. The talent just isn't there. We need a better replacement for the tackle position if Albert or James goes down. A good FA or draft pick at one of the G positions. I would see what Turner has the rest of the year to see if he should start next year or be depth.
