I'm a big fan of Ryan Tannehill and hope his recovery (assuming he now has surgery) goes perfectly. I think the arrow is still pointing up for Tannehill and absolutely see him as the quarterback for this franchise in 2018.

At the very least, though, this has to get the front office thinking. Does Miami now look to draft a quarterback pretty high? Matt Moore is also likely nearing the end of his career and Brandon Dougherty is a bit of an unknown. So, in other words, a strong backup could be needed.

By all accounts, 2018 is said to be a good year for quarterback prospects. What's the thinking here?

I imagine so. Will a QB be available who is worth it if Miami finishes 8-8? I'm not the college guru so I don't know.

Miami needs a QB next year even if RT is back. A center is needed early too because you know Pouncey isn't going to stay healthy.

I don't think it should. Unless Miami is very bad this year, they will not be in range to draft Darnold - unless Darnold significantly regresses. Beyond Darnold, there are no QB's in the coming class I'd break my back to acquire. The exception may be Jarrett Stidham. But, I want to see him do it for a year and stay healthy. If Josh Rosen shows growth, he could also enter that group, but based on my viewing of him, I think that's unlikely. Because he under threw the fastest player of the last 20 years a few times, Jake Browning takes more shade than I feel is warranted. He does have limitations, but he's very sharp, instinctive, and accurate - particularly on throws 25 yards and under. I'm not as high on Josh Allen.

Baker Mayfield, Mason Rudolph, and Riley Ferguson are the other interesting QB's to me, but they all come with questions/limitations. 2017 should add some clarity, but if I'm Miami, I'm looking for value/falling talent from one of the QB's I've mentioned here, or (to reference a current thread) I'd consider trading for Hundley. Continue to build the team and maximize value, but you should be looking for value at the position regardless. Not to flex, but Dak Prescott should not have fallen to the 4th RD. I don't care what needs you have; he showed too much at Mississippi St. and the Senior Bowl for him to last that long.

Specifics aside,

1. always prioritize talent and value at the QB position
2. never force it

I think/hope Gase trusts his ability to evaluate QB's enough to be patient and look for falling talent - preferably before the 6th or 7th.

Yeah, I would assume so..

Moore will be a F.A

Tannehill is coming off of 2 injuries to the same leg

I could see Miami taking a QB day 1 or day 2 in the draft...look at what the Chiefs did this past year

Yes If I'm Miami I'm drafting a QB in the 1st round in 2018.

Unless Miami finishes in the bottom 3, no to a 1st round QB.

No....Tannehill returns healthy with a long rehab time....Cutler make shock many of you with these weapons and Gase and may do a part deux.

But, you have a quarterback going into his 7th year in the league with no real accolades to his name so far, and has a cap hit around $20M.

We've waited long enough for him to turn the corner and leave no doubts. And sadly, this injury, something that was generally out of his hands, may be the dagger in Tanne's coffin for the Dolphins unless some sort of a contract restructure can be made.

It comes down to these two moves in my opinion
1. Restructure Tannehill and draft a QB in the top two rounds of the draft
2. Release Tannehill and use the money to sign Kirk Cousins

Over the last several years I have read posts cursing the O line. A number beyond counting. "One of the days Tannehill is gonna get banged up for real!!"

Well, it happened.

So here we are. The rehab didn't click like we had hoped. Surgery costs a year and, while maybe the best bet, it offers no guarantees. Matt Moore is a very good backup, and for all we know might just pull an Earl Morrall. Maybe. Like Morrall, Moore has a LOT of weapons.

Or Cutler gels with Gase and the team. Maybe he lights it up. Maybe even retires next spring going out with a bang rather than a whimper.

Yes. With all respect to Ryan Tannehill, Philbin ruined this guy. Too many hits over too little amount of time. We need to start looking for a QB. Moore isn't young. Cutler got pulled out of retirement.

And Tannehill might not be what he should have been.

A sorry thing for a guy that gave all he had for this team.

Lol at anyone who trusts a guy coming off back to back ACL injuries. Have to draft a qb next year and develop.

Honestly Tannehill flat out isn't good enough for me to gamble on next year so yea, we should take a QB very early next year. The team will be tempted to cut the guy anyway seeing as how it frees up $17mil with very little dead money. It's time for Gase to choose his own franchise QB.

I'd watch Josh Allen out of Wyoming this year, he's big, can move, and has an arm. He one of the top QBs in college ATM.

I think it has too. As has already been said there are many questions about Tannehill not including the knee, now throw that on top of it and a $20m cap hit next year if on the roster. It has to be part of your scouting plans and thinking now, if it wasn't already.

This should have been addressed in this past offseason. I was hoping for Patrick Mahomes at 22, obviously that was never an option. I do like our draft a lot,but if we have no faith in Matt Moore then we should have done something about this position.

He could go very high...I don't think we'll be THAT bad this year but we can always move up to secure him.
