I have a bad feeling that saban knows daunte's knee is shot, and without a quarterback next year we wouldn't be able to win and decided to run while the offer was still on the table.

I just have gotten the feeling ever since daunte went from being the back-up to the third string, to inactive and to ultimately IR, that the coaches know he may be done. He had a very significant injury, but if he wasn't able to play after 14 months, I have my doubts whether he ever will.

Could saban have known this and could this have somehow weighed into his decision to leave? We all knew that saban's success as a coach would come down to how culpepper played. Maybe saban knew that answer before the rest of us and bailed when he had the chance. I hope this isn't true but fear it may be.

Thoughts?

If Daunte is healthy, then no it's not the end. If Daunte is still hurt then yes it's the end.

Culpepper was never the answer to begin with in my opinion....

It's time to finally start over, and draft a young, future franchise QB. Someone we can groom, and build around. We'll surely go through some losing lumps in the process, but in the end we'll be much better off in my opinion....

PHINZ RULE!!!!

From Saban's PC two days ago:

(On how he weighs decisions about the quarterback position without being certain about Daunte Culpepper’s status) – “We can’t be certain about Daunte because you have a physical issue there that he is going to be rehabbing for a significant amount of time, but we’re hopeful by some point in March, when we start physically doing things, that he’ll be able to physically do things and we’ll be able to make an evaluation of him and how he is able to come back. I just think we have to do it day-to-day and week-to-week. I don’t think we can make predictions about what is going to happen for Daunte in the future.â€Â

Fact is, even Saban isn't certain about Daunte being the answer. Nobody on that staff is. Everyone here who claims that the coaching staff thinks highly of Culpepper is lying, because those comment s from our FORMER head coach is saying that he is not sure about Daunte's future, and does not know if he is the answer.

We MUST draft a real franchise quarterback, period. We must stop picking up these garbage quarterback's from other teams and stop wasting picks on these has been's.

Draft a quarterback. DRAFT A REAL DAMN QUARTERBACK.

I hope not i just got an authentic CPep jersey on ebay for 30 bucks. O well its a sweet jersey even if he is done.

lets hope so..i want Russell with that 1st rd pick if were not gonna get Joe Thomas from Wisconsin..

Bye Bye Daunte. Just another in a long list of bad Saban decisions (Brees, Mularky, Shelton, and DB's). Jury is still out on Jason Allen.

Yes, this underscores my point. I have just not gotten the feeling that the staff (especially saban) is confident that culpepper can come back (seperate issue from whether he is the answer at quarterback when healthy) and I think nick leaving town could be another indication that daunte is done.

And by the way, yes WE DEFINETLY NEED TO DRAFT A YOUNG QUARTERBACK TO BUILD AROUND, hopefully by nick leaving the new regime will not have to defend a bad decision and is free to build around a young draftee.

Assuming we get a real head coach, Daunte will be gone. If we're stuck with Mularkey until Wayne gets through selling the team, Daunte will be around another season.

Good point. Saban's departure may be writing on the wall as far as daunte's health

This is the most pessimistic I've ever heard Saban regarding Culpepper's status...and the fact they are waiting until March to see if he can start "physically doing things" is not, IMHO, a good sign.

The first practices are in March. Why would we do anything before then?
