I know a lot of people on these boards were a fan and were hoping he resigns. Now that he is not, how much is his loss going to hurt our secondary. He did have a team high 4 picks last year.

So now do we look towards secondary in the first round?? Or are you expecting another DB pickup in free agency? And who??

since saban signed some good guys in free agency, the secondary will be ok.. we will miss him in somewhat..but not that much ...i trust nick and the things he does for the better of the team....we'll be fine

He will be missed to a degree and did have a team high four picks but he also gave up a few big plays because he missplayed the ball or receiver late in the season.

maybe but that didnt cost us games

Yes, he will be missed. We have NO real veteran leadership in our secondary. I hate to say this to everyone who will most undoubtably harass me, but our secondary is going to be average to below average this year.

I'd rather have a player in the FS position going into his 2nd year expirence with the team and in this D sheme. Than a player in his 1st year expirence with the team. I'd would haved loved to have both ( Lance & Deke Cooper ) players signed. And let the younger player develop. :tantrum:

Currently, our secondary doesn't really have any players who can make big plays like Schulters but they're solid at least. He'll be missed somewhat but we have adequate replacements in Hill and Cooper. If Schulters could've gave up fewer big plays, I think he would've been re-signed already. Basically those big plays given up erased the big plays he made in Saban's mind.

I think the only thing that will be missed is his knowledge of Saban's system. I believe Saban will put the newly signed guys in positons to make plays. They are young and fast and with the right coaching should be able to meet their potential, which will mean they give us as good or better play than we received from Lance last year.

Guys...Schulters isn't all that...He was a nice fill-in for us last year, but he was the third best DB behind Madison and Daniels ?? Hill, Daniels, Bell, even Goodman will make as good a FS as he was for us. The one thing that the guys Saban have brought in can do that Schulters and Jones couldn't do is be versatile enough to fit in wherever they are needed.

This is no surprise either, he said when he came here last year, that he was looking for a LT commitment, something that no team, including Saban was doing. That still hasn't changed.

There's no need to get so worked up over a decent player, when overall, Saban has improved the talent in the secondary from last year, even with the loss of Schulters and Jones and Madison...

3rd best??? behind Madison and Daniels? lol yeah rite. He was the most consistant player in our 2ndary. He won us the game against Carolina, and he provided leadership in the 2ndary. His loss will hurt us big time, Schulters was a ball hawk, and though he only came up with 4 INTs this season...he seemed to be around the ball majority of the time. He made solid tackles and though he might have given up some big plays...there's no1 in this league who doesn't...Don't 4get that it was his 1st year in our system along w/all of our startes from last year. And he played it quite well. To be back for a 2nd year would only improve himself, but now he's gone and we will have players learning the system all over again. And another thing...Tebucky Jones was out for the season by like week 5 or something. So why even mention him when he barely played...Schulters wasn't a fill in...he came in pre-season and won the starting job in a heart beat. He's an all-pro not a fill in.

Wow !
Number of years in Saban's NFL D sheme. Daniels 1 year expirence, Cooper 1st year, Allen 1st year, Goodman 1st year, hill 1st year, Bell 1 year. Sure hope that these players can step it up in the up coming year.

He USED to be a probowler. I'm not gonna rip the guy, he's a good player, but this isn't the end of the world. He was an older player that we boright in with a 1 yr deal for a reason. Noone wanted to give him a long term deal last year and he's still on the market now for a reason. He did a decent job, but now Nick has had time to find younger players he can develop.

Does anybody think we need one or two Veteran(s) and leader(s) at DB in the up coming year ?
