I took a ride down to the morning practice today and it was another hot one folks!....The offense appeared a little sluggish this morning. There were alot of "tipped" balls for interceptions in practice today...I'd like to attribute that to fatigue, both the RB's and WR's appeared one step slow in their reaction to the balls thrown to them today.

I like to try to be positive about our teams development when the opportunity presents itself, but our WR's and TE's also dropped alot of "catchable" passes this morning. Some were due to bad tosses from the QB's, but most were the product of a lack of concentration.

David Sutton showed that he was mortal today....He dropped a few passes that I've seen him catch with little to no effort before...It may be time for Sutton to hit the wall a little bit...which is expected as he has probably gotten more passes thrown to him in the past week than he did his entire college career!

Reed looked a little tired today as well dropping a quick slant where he'd actually made a pretty good move to get position on the CB...PK Sam followed suit as the ball bounced out of his grasp a couple times, he also missed on a high pass that I thought he would've caught on a good day.

Chris Chambers was off again today...I'm not quite sure how many footballs he's catching after practice or in the off season, but I'm beginning to think that this guy has possibly reached his "mechanical" best as it pertains to his reciever skills. He was defensed very well this morning by a slew of DB's in my opinion...and I need to see more from him as he's the leader of the receiving core. His problem in my opinion is his inability to wall off the defender will securing the reception...Travis Daniels snagged a ball from him at about waste height that Chambers was bobbling and return it to the endzone for a defensive TD.

Booker and Hagan appear to be on a more consistent level than the other WR's...as the other Wideouts like Sutton, Reed, and Chambers appear more flashy with how they go about their business and seem to thrive on making the difficult catch. Where as Hagan and Booker are just catching anything that is thrown their way whether they are covered or not....Booker is by far our most consistent WR on the team at this point...he doesn't let the ball get into his body unless it's the only way possible to make the catch....It's almost boring to watch, because the ball is snagged out of the air in stride and tucked away for security so fast that it makes it very difficult for the DB to strip him...And Marty's body control and route running doesn't allow for many opportunities to knock the ball down anyway.

Hagan seems to be following the on field form of Booker as he is showed that he has fly-paper hands and has exhibited good body control in diving for the low catch it seems. I think he will surprise defenses this year...as he reminds me of a smaller quicker version of Orande Gadsen.

Ginn looked tired alot today....the receiving core appeared to show signs that the South Florida sun was having it's way with them. Ginn didn't show the explosive burst that I saw earlier in camp, but I did finally see him go deep this morning...He got behind the DB down the right sideline by a couple of yards, but Cleo Lemon couldn't get the timing down and over threw him into the endzone. Ginn also ran the first reverse that I've seen by the offense as of yet....though I am not sure if it was blocked right, because Carey blocked down (inside) to his right leaving JT unblocked and unaccounted for. JT got depth to be in better position on Ginn for the tackle, but didn't stop the progress of the play...so Ginn shot by him and turned the corner for what appeared to be about a 10-15 yard gain....If you asked me, I felt JT would've turned out Ginn's lights if this was a real game situation.

The offense as a whole looked pretty sluggish today...I think that has alot to do with how physical the practices have been for the Offense...with more of the rookies on this team being on the offensive side of the ball I think that it will take them a little more time to catch up to the speed, conditioning, and agility of the defense.

The running game was hit-or-miss at best...The defense was very alert and appeared ready for just about everything that was thrown at them with the exception of a few blown assignments...I would also like to make mention of Reagan Mauia's ability to deliver a pop at the line of scrimmage. He was the lead blocker on two of the succesful run plays that I saw in the "inside drill". He get's a solid initial contact on the LB and shifts his feet to maintain that contact and leverage, Reagan will be solid in the Goal Line packages for us this year.

Trent Green looked sharp to me today..I feel his INT's were more the receivers fault than anything else this morning. The ball came out quickly with excellent rotation and appeared to surprise the RB's and WR's all day, thus leading to the "tipped" or "bobbled" passes for picks!

Cleo had happy feet this morning, but was the lone QB to attempt to hit Ginn deep. He worked with the 2's for most of the day, but did get some work in with the 1st O-Line...he was also a victim of the "tipped" pass and had a couple INT's that were not all his fault.

Beck continued to develop as he found receivers in the flats and over the middle alot today. This kid hasn't got the timing down as of yet, but he lets the ball go well in advance of the receiver's cut....There were a couple completions that he could've had if the receiver got his head around to see the ball. Beck dosn't have "Brett Favre" like throwing power where as a DB can be standing right next to the target WR and still zip it past the defender before he can react....Beck is going to develop into a QB that anticipates where the receiver will be before he even makes the cut....which will make him impossible to defend if he can continue to progress in Cameron's system.

Vernon Carey was on the island throughout the day today...he faced every single defensive end the team had to offer...and he held his own against them all, including JT. He showed good foot/hand quickness and immediately locked up the rushing defender or pushed the defender out beyond any point where he could affect the play....This guy appears to be headed towards developing into a "fortress" on the left side...Carey and JT had some very spirited battles today with both of them committing "off sides" and "false start" penalties...Carey didn't dominate Taylor, but he did a solid enough job of keeping him out of the backfield disrupting plays....which is not an easy task in any stretch of the imagination.

Alibi looked pretty decent at the RT as well this morning...He has a very powerful two-hand punch, as he took Abraham Wright off of his feet with a "very quick" jolt when he was rushing from the LOLB position.

Mormino held his own against most of the stunts that the D-line attempted....and Liewenski was surprisingly solid at the LG slot as well...on one play JT looped inside on Carey with Holiday replacing him which held Carey's attention leaving the resposibility to pick up Taylor on the LG, Liewenski came through like a champ and "stonewalled" JT at the line of scrimmage.

Satele got the snaps off very quickly all day....He was not dominant today but appeared to thwart any major intrusion up the middle very consistently in "team drills".

As for the defense, these guy's are just salty....it makes it easy to understand why the offense is not showing so well against them.

Jason Taylor appears very alert and quick...don't be surprised if he returns to form and defends his defensive MVP this coming season. The starting defense was very aggressive and reactive to just about anything the offense tried...Joey and Zach are going through the motions and look like they're ready to face an opposite color jersey....the rigors of training camp really show with these two as they appear to be "cruising" on auto-pilot.

Channing is still the willing understudy that is consulting with Zach, Joey, or JT at any given opportunity...He looks to be in very good shape and is filling the gaps with a solid pop, usually stopping the leadback in his tracks for the most part....He also made a nice leaping interception on one of the numerous balls that were tipped this morning and returned it for about 15 yards...he looks ready to go!

Jason Allen didn't look very good at CB in one-on-ones against the WR's...he was faked out on a corner route by a WR (can't recall whom)...Allen went right as the receiver broke left to the sideline for an easy pitch and catch...There were quite a few reps where he was not even in the receivers area when the ball was caught. Jason did redeem himself when he covered the same type of route in team against Chambers...he got position on the sideline and went up to intercept the pass but couldn't hold onto it when he hit the ground...It was still great coverage and I was happy to see that he wasn't phased by his poor play earlier.

One of the two surprises of the day was the play of Micheal Lehan....this CB is really trying to make the coaching staff recognize his potential...He had his WR on lockdown for most of the practice and caused a fumble against Ronnie Brown as he came up and whalloped him at the right sideline....I was surprised at this sight since Lehan gives away well over 40 lbs. to Brown...Gotta hold onto that ball Ronnie!

The other surprise was the "extremely" agressive play of DT Paul Soliai, who is an absolute "disruptive force"....on one play he lined up in a "****ed" NT stance just off to the left of the Center...when the ball was snapped Soliai exploded forward blasting the Center (I beleive it was Hadnot) 3-4 yards into the backfield....We will be able to run some really interesting "inside" blitzes off of this guy!

That's all I got folks....the whole team is continuing to work hard and developing the right fundamentals for sustaining a better level of play. I am only one man and there is alot to see on both the fields, so I apologize for anything in particular that you may have been interested in that I didn't cover thouroughly enough for you.

Bye-bye for now....

Go Phins!

God I love our defense. Remember when we had Dan behind center, we kept scoring and scoring, but our D was paper thin. I miss all those high scoring games, but man I wouldn't trade JT, Zach, Joey and Crowder for anything in the world.

I do have to say, with the strength of our schedual, and an offensive minded coach who is working very hard to right this ship, I think we'll be able to hold back most offenses and generate at least a couple scores to give us a few close call wins.

Think of it this way. Last year we lost tons of games by 3 points or less. We've got a more consistent kicker, QB and kick returner, maybe we can be the team that has a lot of wins by 3 points or less. Thats how the Pats got to the superbowl their first time.

Awesome! Thanks for the report!!!

I guess its to be expected that the offense is behind, but its seems like its been 10 years since we heard about the offense holding their own in TC.

Carey's play at LT is definitely encouraging. I think he has a world of talent and became a very good RT. His making the switch to LT is definitely a key for our season. I think he's way better prepared to do it now than he was as a rookie when he struggled. I'm glad to hear he's holding his own

Solai is another guy that really seems like he has a chance to be a player. He could be a great pick for us. Traylor isn't getting any younger and its good to have a guy to spell him and groom for the future. With his size and quickness, I'm anxious to see what he can do this season.

Thanks for the report man! Great to see the defense is still money so far. Hope the offense can learn and get better as we get closer.

Combine that with this note...

OL L.J Shelton beat Abe Wright: Complete mismatch in weight divisions.

Wasn't someone trying to tell me that Abe Wright's being 240 pounds meant nothing as an edge rusher going up against 330 pound monsters?

Go Phins!

Great report, nice to hear that the O-Line isn't really looking too bad.

Great report cash. From your analysis I'd have to agree it seems most of the players were in fact suffering from the dreaded Mondays.

About Chambers. It's a shame he plays just like his personality and I know this is common in sports. The reverse is all the me-first WRs in the league and as a result you could see that they're aggressive on the field. But it's not impossible for Chris to play outside of his polite nature. M. Harrison & T. Polamalu are perfect examples. CC just has to want it.

Awesome Report! Im starting to think Carey is gonna be real solid for us at LT, hope ALabi improves at RT and beats out Shelton.

Nice report. In today's blog, Thompson talked about how much Lehan has been impressing so far. I wonder if it could be Lehan who might take the nickel spot until Goodman is healthy enough.

From what I've gathered, and so many reports have been conflicting, is that Vernon Carey has done pretty well. The rest of the OLine has struggled, or a few guys have done alright, or whatever. Also, it doesn't seem like Ronnie or Chambers have come out of the gates lighting the world on fire either. Just the first 3 days though, things will come together.

Wasn't someone trying to tell me that Abe Wright's being 240 pounds meant nothing as an edge rusher going up against 330 pound monsters?

I think I can corroborate that lol

Wright's shot is on special teams. Still, if Wright can contribute as a special teamer and situational rush kind of guy, that would be great for where he was picked.

Great to hear about Carey. I have been saying for years now to move him to LT. The guy has serious talent... and his skill set best fits that of a LT.

Outstanding! This guy was dominant all saturday... but I was holding off on proclaiming him as the greatest thing ever until I saw him in pads. So glad to hear he didnt disappear when the pads came on.

This guy is my favorite rookie of the 2007 draft class...

Great report Cash! I cant wait to see these guys in pads this weekend. Are you going?
