at the bottom of his most recent article:

• If I ran any NFL team, I would think twice before trying to sneak someone through the waiver wire because I expect the Dolphins to be very active in claiming players. The Dolphins will lead the league in claims this year and take full advantage of the high claiming spot they earned with their one-win season.

thoughts?

I agree. I think Miami will be using the waiver wire a lot once the cuts start rolling in. I think WR and OL depth will really be the focus for the Front Office.

yeah but i cant think of one good wide reciver thats been cut . maybe it's a memory lapse but ....don't remember.

The basic point being a sad but true one: the talent level at the bottom of our roster (where most of the cuts happen) is so far below the rest of the league that almost ANY team's 4th or 5th WR/CB/OL is going to be better than ours.

There is a lack of talent on our team no doubt. We made some good improvements in the off season and I think in the next year or two we will be filling in the gaps parcells and co. are known for finding gems in the draft we may have a star in the making for this year that could change the whole team dynamic.

it is a great thing for us

we can really add some nice and much needed depth

The Dolphins have a very real and tangible asset getting first dibs on players though the waiver wire, and they would be fools not to utilize it. It's not something just bad teams do, all teams should churn the bottom of the roster. Unless you have the deepest team in the NFL, another teams 54th best player could be your 53rd best player.

With the 80 man roster rule without Europe exceptions this year, it's going to cause some real problems with training camp numbers. People don't realize what a numbers game your average training camp is. You needs guys to fill roles in camp, even if they're not going to make the final 53. You have to keep extra pieces around, like extra QB's to take practice reps to keep their starters arms from wearing down before the season even starts. Teams are going to have less patience with young players who don't flash something right away, because those roster spots are valuable.

I agree with that article. With our 1-15 record we have first rights to claim anyone on waiver. That's a huge advantage.
