Seems the players like their coach....

News that Joe Philbin would be back for a fourth season was received positively in a locker room that at times this season had questions about their coach.

Some of the best:

▪ Quarterback Ryan Tannehill: “It’s great. I’m happy for him. I think we believe in Coach Philbin and the program that he has. Everything is set into place, and he does a great job. I am happy to hear that he is coming back.”

▪ Jason Fox, who started at right tackle in place of an injured Dallas Thomas: “Players love Coach. The guys fight for him. He’s one of us, and he’s part of this football family. We fight for him every game, not just today.”

▪ Receiver Mike Wallace: “That’s our coach. We’re rocking with him. That’s our guy. I have a good time playing for him. I enjoy it. Coach always puts us in a great position. The plays might not always work, but that’s on us.”

▪ Defensive tackle Jared Odrick: “I think it’s awesome. We’ve got a game to play next week. There’s a lot of decisions to be made in the offseason, in terms of everybody else. What he’s got intact here, in terms of his coaching and his belief in us and our belief in him, is something special. It’s definitely a great move for the organization and for Joe.”

▪ Defensive lineman Derrick Shelby: “It’s his team. I go out and play hard for everybody. It doesn’t matter if it’s Coach Philbin or whoever it is. I owe it to these guys to give it everything I’ve got. Him being the coach, I’m playing for him as well. People make a big deal about that, trying to play hard for a guy. It’s your job. It’s something you’ve got to do.”

It's hard to know the players real reaction.......it's not like anyone is going to say 'this sucks.'

Why wouldn't they? It means they can coast along with mediocre play for another year and take a fat paycheck.

Wait, they didn't blast the guy who will be their head coach next year? Shocking.

In all honesty, what do you expect them to say? Its not like they are going blast their coach considering they like being employed...

They did play hard when they did not have to.

With that said, what would they say publicly in such a spot?

And they did not play hard when they did have too. Year 4 will totally be different and stuff.

I guess we're going to see a million threads about this for some time but one way or another nothing will change. He's the HC so let's just root for him.

I thought they'd run for the bus yesterday. I was wrong.

The games with the playoff on the line the last two years have been flat out awful.

Hasn't stopped them from ripping him and other staff members in the past

When have these players publicly ripped him? Odrick? While his true feelings are known from what was inadvertently caught on the sideline, he publicly acted like they were all chummy after.

Yeah, the effort was definitely there yesterday. I saw your thought that they would fold up.......I figured it could go either way, but glad to see they rallied.

That was a fun game to watch yesterday.

Edit: You have to wonder what happened in that Ravens game.....

Who's knows if this will end up being good or not. I'm just not one bit thrilled about the decision making by the staff in close games. I honestly feel we should have atleast 10 wins with a better staff.

I think when teams aren't in the playoffs that players ply for themselves ,not necessarily the coach.

Everyone in that building plays/coaches for their jobs.

Just like there is "coachspeak" I'd mark this up to "Playerspeak".

Can't expect them to say much else.

I agree, it was fun. Imagine if playoffs were still on the line?
