I was at a party last night and football became the main discussion. (big surprise). When we started talking about the Orange Bowl I mentioned how I loved it when a field goal was kicked into the pool behind the endzone a real dolphin would flip the ball back out with its nose. Well, even the most die-hard of fans were looking at me like I had too much to drink. (that didnt happen til later on.)Is there anyone here that remembers that other than me?The younger fans here would`nt remember that but the older fans should.

You are correct. The Dolphins used to have a Dolphins in a very large pool of water behind the goal post. I'm not sure what reason was given for discontinuing the practice, but it probably had something to do with animal rights. The Dolphin in the water behind the endzone was back in the orange bowl days. Ace Ventura Pet Detective showed a Dolphin tank at Joe Robbie stadium. We never had a Dolphin in the water at Joe Robbie, only the Orange Bowl.

Yep, I remember seeing Flipper in the tank in the end zone...I also remember seeing the palm trees in the end zone. It is nice to see the stadium during the U. of Miami games....wish the Phins still played there. I also remember the stadium had a Welcome to Miami sign and the stands seemed to be right on the field.....I hope it hasn't changed much. I have never been to the stadium in person.

It was great having "Flipper" in the end zone. I remember reading that at one time they were training the dolphin to raise out of the water, stare, and laugh at the opposing team's qb when they got near the goal line.

Don't recall it was ever done.

those nutty environmentalists probally made them remove it because of animal crualty or some other thing they want to invent

1. ace ventura is the best movie ever, lol...
2. maybe some of the opposing teams complained about the balls being different because they were in water? unfair advantage maybe? just a guess...

That would have been pretty cool to see, I really wish that I was a little older so that I could remember the older days of football when the players were so much more tuff and legends were made. I think anymore we have idols, but I think the days of legends are over. It would have been nice to watch football with guys playing because the loved the game and the glory instead of the money and fame.
