Last year it was Matt Roth moving to OLB, Anthony Fasano play at TE, Devone Bess at WR, Chad Pennington play at QB and Lankfords play at DE that really stood out as improvements on the team.

What players is anyone projecting of having those kinds of impact on this years team in 2009?

I can't agree with your list...but I understand your premise...

Mine is Smith. I think he will take the corner postion opposite Allen, and not Davis. (Davis will take Allen's position in a couple of years though...)

I basicially expect that to happen this year too just like I expected Jake Long to start at LT last year. My question and examples were more based on the surprises some of the players brought to the table last year.

For example if Enrest Wilford stuck and was productive at TE that would be a surprise this year. There have been rumours that he is hard to cover at TE etc already out of OTA's. Anthony Armstrong taking plays away from Ted Ginn would be another.

Jason taylor will have a fantastic part time season. see trace armstrong

Nice angle, I like the thread.

What I like about this years team is the front office has brought in players where there are so many solid options at areas of need that I don't think you can really call them surprises. True last year Bess was a surprise, so was Fasano, and I think you would have to say the play of Andre Goodman was something of a surprise. But this year we have more talent coming in. Whether Eric Green, or Smith or Davis gets the start at RCB I don't think you can really call either of them a surprise, unless they were to make the probowl or something. The same with Wake, or JT, they both have tremendous ability and if it translates to the field no one will be all that surprised (except for Goon who thinks Wake is camp fodder).

My point is that we have much better talent coming in so it will be less of a surprise to see this year's team excell. However to answer you question I can someone like Louis Ellis, or McDaniels coming in a getting some playing time. Also if Armstrong gets some snaps I guess you could call that a bit of a surprise. I also think Clemons could end up being a poor man's Bob Sanders.

But that is the fun of camp, we get to see it unfold one day at a time.

Davis as the starting 2nd CB, many already have him as one of the starters, but still will be surprise how physical and dominating he will become by game 3 or 4. He can stay with most receivers, but also that rare corner that will come up to help on running plays and land a massive hit here and there.

Smith as the 3rd or 4th CB, he has looked very good so far, and seems to also have a following for him to start, but he is still raw, the ceiling is still very high for him....don't be surprised if he is able to get 4 or more INTs this year as a rookie, and still have much more room to grow in 2010.

P. Turner in the Redzone, he has looked as good or better then any of the other rookies in camp, and he will get his chance in many types of situations, but the Redzone will become his, like Ronnie and the Wildcat were last year.

White and the things he will bring to this Offense, he may not be ready to be an NFL QB yet, but he is going to be impossible to defend in the wildcat, and any other offense that may be created to use his multi-talents. White has the instincts of a Reggie Bush, with the QB arm and accuracy, and speed of a McNair....now can he be as good as those two?

Patrick Turner will lead the team in recieving TDs- Yes he will make an impact in the redzone, but due to 3 of our other WRs being suited for the slot (Hartline, Camarillo, and Bess) plus Turner being 6'5 will result in him getting several options.

Channing Crowder will take the step from good player to great player- Just a hunch. He played well last year, and he seems committed.

Both probably good guesses although Turner would only have to catch 3 tds last year to lead our wide receivers.

we will lead the league in sacks

KTOWNFINFAN I agree with you that it will be harder to surprise or make a splash on this years team because of the greater depth on this years squad. Let's pursue some possible senario's that might surprise some of the phin fans.

I beleive for one reason or another the following positions might have some surprises on this years squad.

1. ILB Orion Martin over Akin Ayodele
2. NT Paul Soliai over Jason Ferguson
3. WR Anthony Armstrong over Ted Ginn Jr
4. TE Ernest Wilford over David Martin
5. S Tyrone Culver over Gibril Wilson
6. G Nate Gardner over Donald Thomas

Granted these are long shots but "I" beleive these positions are unsettled in the coaches eyes and they are looking for some options.

besides the people already mentioned, i think chris clemons might turn some heads this year.

OK, well I do not think Smith will start, but he will play a lot and show very good improvement for a raw CB. That is not too much of a stretch though.

I also expect Taylor to have a big year and Wake to be underwhelming, although I do not think those qualify as too big of surprises either.

So, my surprise will be Brian Hartline to make the team and become a solid contributor on special teams and as a slot receiver as well as a versatile contributor in the wildcat formations. I think he will prove to be a solid citizen and team player. Given the downright absence of any respect whatsoever on this board, I guess him becoming a solid contributor qualifies as a surprise.

I think that the coaching staff is going to drill that Wildcat into a finely tuned machine and therefore Pat White gets a lot of snaps. Look for the Wildcat to be more than just a novelty set. My guess, if they really can pull it off, is that Pat White becomes Rookie of the Year on Offense for the AFC.

Second, the 2-back rotation has a firm hold in today's NFL. Look for the OLB position to be similar and VERY productive for the Dolphins this year: Roth on obvious running downs, JT as designated sack artist. The two of their salaries added together (JT = $1 million + Roth = $760,000) is below what most quality LBers get anyway. Probably a nice raise in store for them both in 2010.

I like the idea of Wilford bulking up to TE and creating the kind of mis-match problem for defenses that Dallas Clark poses at Indy. Dallas Clark switched positions, too... he was stuck at 4th string Linebacker at Iowa until the coaches thought he might "do OK" at Tight End. Hopefully, Wilford takes to the position and works hard.

Man! How Exciting!! It's as if the Front Office knows what they are doing!

I think that cam bess and ginn can all have great years and than we will trade one of them for a 2nd or 3rd they are all young and if they can show that last year wasnt a fluke teams could get interested and i think that our coaches are excellent at devepoling talent so there would not be a drop off because when you think of it camarillio= hartline, bess= chris williams, ginn= armstrong we have a lot of similar talent. Im not saying were trading all of them just an idea. Also i see paul solai becoming a good starter in this league he has the tools he just needs to get his head screwed on right.
