Dolphins | NFL Grants Request For 2004 Schedule - from www.KFFL.com
Thu, 15 Apr 2004 09:02:48 -0700

The Miami Herald reports the Miami Dolphins have scheduled road trips at the Seattle Seahawks and the San Francisco 49ers in back-to-back weeks on the 2004 regular season schedule. The Dolphins requested the NFL to schedule the road games in consecutive weeks so the team could stay on the West Coast the week between games and prepare without having to deal with multiple cross-country flights. The NFL granted Miami's request, so the Dolphins will play at Seattle on Nov. 21, then travel to San Francisco for a Nov. 28, game.

The Miami Herald reports restricted free agent DE Adewale Ogunleye (Dolphins) will not receive an offer sheet from another team by the Friday, April 16, deadline, according to his agent, Drew Rosenhaus. However, Rosenhaus is still hopeful some team will be willing to trade for Ogunleye once the restricted price of a first- and third-round pick is off starting Saturday, April 17. The Miami Dolphins and Rosenhaus have had no serious negotiations on a long-term contract for Ogunleye.

Dolphins | Wannstedt Feels 2004 Schedule Is Challenging, Yet Fair - from www.KFFL.com
Thu, 15 Apr 2004 08:49:13 -0700

The Sun-Sentinel reports Miami Dolphins head coach Dave Wannstedt feels the 2004 regular season schedule is both "challenging and fair." The Dolphins, who open the regular season at home against the Tennessee Titans on Sept. 14, will play three of their first four games at home and their last AFC East road game on Nov. 1. Miami will be one of the four teams with the latest possible bye week (Nov. 14), and they only play in two cold-weather cities after Nov. 1 – the Denver Broncos on Dec. 12, and the Baltimore Ravens on Jan. 2. "We know we will have to be ready to play right from the start since Tennessee will be a tough opener," said Wannstedt.

Dolphins | Fast Fact - from www.KFFL.com
Thu, 15 Apr 2004 08:38:02 -0700

The Rochester Democrat and Chronicle reports the Buffalo Bills' Oct. 17, 2004, home game on against the Miami Dolphins will mark the first time in seven seasons the Dolphins won't be traveling to Buffalo in November or December.

"We know we will have to be ready to play right from the start since Tennessee will be a tough opener," said Wannstedt.
No ignornat "See you after practice" comments this year.

That last tidbit is aggravating. The NFL has long been using the schedule to enforce this fast start and slow finish thing for the Phins. I mean they balance out, they often put the cold weather teams in hot stinko sweaty Miami for September or October, where we get the advantage, then put us in cold @ss buffalo and new england late in the year...where we most often get our butts frozen off then handed to us.

This year our coldest game is set to be Baltimore in January...and having lived in the DC area for 5 years, its not all that bad...bout a 50/50 chance that it will just be like 40 degrees.

i dont think just cuz we are a warm weather team we should be given any leway to lose a cold weather game or a game late in the season...thats so dumb. hell, while we're at it we should move the regular season to start in spring/summer so everything is over before winter and we wont have problems, huh?

Atila.... I don't think most of us are complaining about the disadvantages of the Phinz playing in cold weather..... I think it's the FREQUENCY that we play to other team's strengths and the scheduling of our bye week.

The Rochester Democrat and Chronicle reports the Buffalo Bills' Oct. 17, 2004, home game on against the Miami Dolphins will mark the first time in seven seasons the Dolphins won't be traveling to Buffalo in November or December.

We have similar histories with NYJ and NE. And, this year marks the LATEST WEEK Miami receives their bye week since 1990. How important was NE's bye week last week when they were banged up? It got them ready for their playoff push.

Anyone can argue that previous schedules allow Miami to play home in the warmer months and at colder regions in the colder months. Theoretically equaling the home field (environment) advantage.

However, I strongly disagree. We typically play NE, NYJ and BUF in MIA during Sep / early Oct. No offense, but I don't think too many blizzards are going on in Sept. Implying, it is fairly warm.. NOT HOT during September in the NE, NYJ and BUFs. When NE comes to MIA to play in the 80s, when it's 60s-70s in NE.
Then, when MIA goes to NE, it's in the 10s- 30s. Back home in MIA it's in the 60s - 70s. That's QUITE a swing in temp.

And gametime is not the only factor. When NE comes to town, they've been practicing in the 60s - 70s to play in the 80s. We've been practicing in the 60s - 70s to play in the 10s - 30s.

I think everyone is tired of playing cold weather teams on their terms. This schedule allows us to take REAL advantage of our home field (environment) advantage. Let them play in the 10s - 30s for 4 weeks then come to MIA when it's 60s-70s. See who's panting on the sideline as opposed to huddling around the heater.

Most Phans would say we've been shafted on the schedule for many years.... and, with this schedule, we shall be able to put to rest the age old debate of warm weather teams playing in the cold. If we swoon again this year, there's no more excuses.

Just MO.
