If we go after Rogers, what good would the first overall pick be to us other than a shot at Jake Long (Michigan)? I think we have a huge opportunity to solidify both lines, which seems to be the top priority of this new Dolphins regime. Get Rogers, trade down with someone (Atlanta, who most likely will go after Ryan), pick Jake Long and run with it from there. Just a thought I had rattling around...

thanks for the link.

but this really isn't news....what would you expect for any GM to say, "We are not even listening to offers, so don't even call us"??

I seriously doubt anyone will be willing to to trade picks for the first pick value according to that trade value chart, and I can't blame them. With the amount of money top 5 picks command, and the fact that it's always a gamble anyways, it's just not worth it. I hope they can trade down and get another pick or 2, but it won't be easy.

Well I'm not surprised, the Dolphins would be dumb to keep the #1 Draft Pick, these #1 Picks are too ****y and want NFL Veteran sized salaries right out of the gate.

Ireland needs to trade down for a fist full of picks and a few healthy veteran players.

this is exactly why the Dolphins should throw the trade value chart right out the f'n window!! It just doesn't make sense, especially when there isn't a clear cut top prospect available.

So should the Dolphins reject any and all trade offers because the don't measure up to the chart?? Hell no!! Work with teams, get the best offer and pick up extra picks and avoid the contract problems that come with the top pcik.

What team is gonna give up "a fist full of picks and a few healthy veteran players" for the pick that the Dolphins would be dumb to keep?

They need to be open to the idea of accepting less.

Adam Shefter was just on the radio and said that teams now days don't want the #1 pick (no surprise here) and that he thinks the Dolphins would have to give up compensation to trade out of that spot. I don't know about you guys.... and I really do respect Adam on all fronts, but that is just retarded. Give up more picks to get out of the TOP PICK????? I'd rather just keep the d@m% pick!

I say trade the pick for 2 things...

(1.) More lower Draft Picks in the 1st and 2nd round
(2.) Healthy veteran talent (QB, DL, LB, WR, TE, OL, DB)

I think Ireland and Parcels will size up the league and see which teams want the #1 pick, and then what picks and vets those teams have to barter with and then they will make the move.

Last I heard on NFL Network, the Cardinals, Bengals, Seahawks, Vikings, Giants, and Jets are after the #1 pick.

well.... someone better fall in love with someone really fast because that #1 is going to get something like 35 million

Well I heard before the end of the season that the Giants wanted to trade Manning, Boss, and 2 picks to us for the #1 pick. The NFL Network said that the Giants were in the market for a new running back since Barber retired and would be willing to trade.

However I don't know if this rumor will hold water now that Manning has lead them to the playoffs.

Why would trading for Rogers preclude us drafting Chris Long or Glen Dorsey? Assuming for the moment that Shaun Rogers comes down to play, Chris Long would still be a good option because he plays DE.
Trading down isn't always as easy as just deciding that you want to.

I would also not handcuff myself to the draft trade chart. I'd keep it handy as a cheat sheet, but I wouldn't use it to kill a deal. The idea of compensating someone to take the #1 pick off our hands is ludicrous. Half the league would be interested in that pick if you lowered your asking price by as little as 10% of the trade chart's suggested retail price.
