So here's the master plan I've created after listening closely to Jeff Ireland and Tony Sparano, and the reasoning behind each step.
1. Trade out of the No. 1 pick for a mid-level first round (or better) with a team willing to put together a package of selections that must include a second round pick, and future considerations like a second rounder in 2009. Why? Because the drop off in talent from pick one to pick 10 (New Orleans), or 13 (Carolina) isn't tremendously steep. Plus, it would save the organization a lot of coin. The Panthers have 10 picks in this draft and might be willing to put a package together that could land the Dolphins another potential starter.
2. If the Dolphins wind up keeping the No. 1 pick, select the Long (Chris or Jake) with the highest grade. While Jake would address a pressing need in the draft, Chris fits the mold of the caliber of player this organization wants to fill the roster with. Can't go wrong with either one, but passing on Jake could be problematic since there will be a run on offensive tackles in this draft, and whoever the Dolphins select will likely be a starter from day one. The Dolphins must determine if they are comfortable passing on Jake Long and being left with options like Kansas' Anthony Collins, Nebraska's Carl Nicks, Auburn's King Dunlap, Virginia Tech's Duane Brown or Clemson's Barry Richardson as the 2008 starter. Chris Long has the versatility to play a number of position in a 3-4 or 4-3, but he likely wouldn't be an immediate starter unless he pushes Matt Roth for the starting left end spot because Jason Taylor and Joey Porter play the same role.
3. If Jake Long, or another offensive lineman, isn't the first round pick, then use the first second round pick to select the best available offensive lineman. You can't take too many chances and leave this position exposed because tackles are one of the hardest positions to fill in the NFL. Building a strong offensive line is the No. 1 priority or the Trifecta because it lays the foundation for the running and passing game.

Bang it here to read the other 7 points:

My problem with all this is Omar is hearing things...but he isn't hearing anything from the Dolphins...and you can take that to the bank.

Its just speculation, were all trying to figure it all out, I thought it was a decent read.

With that said Pete, I think its about time you started accepting the fact that Jake Long will probably be our pick.;)

my insight, and it's purely from the financial side of Davie, is they'll do EVERYTHING to move out of that pay spot. Even if it means taking slightly less than the card says you should get.

i'd say the chance of a draft dday trade is still 50/50 :hi5:

Now Blue....you do know how to make me happy!!

I just have this feeling that everyone is saying that no one whats to trade up...and that when trades happen.

Thats what actually pretty exciting about this draft, it seems like the 1st pick is usually a given, you certainly can't say that this year yet.

I totally agree with that, do you think they'd even consider taking just Dallas's 2 1st rounders?

Depends on what else Dallas offered, but they arent going up that high, let alone us accepting an offer.
While the talent between the #1 and the #10 may not be huge, its starting to drop off at the point Dallas will be picking. I dont think we can afford to miss out on the premium talent around the top half of the first.

jake long isn't worth the number one pick in the draft and we won't draft chris long because we already have jason taylor and joey porter.

i think matt ryan is still very much in play here
