If the 2016 Dolphins are to have success, it's almost essential that the 2015 draft class has success. That means projected starters such as wide receiver DeVante Parker, defensive tackle Jordan Phillips, running back Jay Ajayi, and cornerbacks Bobby McCain and Tony Lippett must come through in their second season in the NFL. If those five play well, along with guard-center Jamil Douglas, the 2015 draftees might qualify as the franchise's most successful class in several years.

This could be one of our best drafts in the last 5 years. This is why Hickery was a good GM to me. I actually liked his '14 draft at the time. Grier first draft class doesn't seem that bad either. Maybe we're trending up for a change.

I liked Hickey's drafts and changing that position bothered me the most of all the changes.

As far as Grier goes....Tunsil was a no brainer...I loved the tradedown considering this particular draft.

In my mind what will make or break this draft will be the day 2 picks...Howard, Drake & Caroo....if they are busts this was not a great draft despite day 1.

I do think Jakeem Grant was an excellent pick.

I thought that wss clearly mike t's class.

Hickey and philbin were fighting for there career. They wouldn't of wanted projects like Lippett and Phillips. Lippett didn't even fit coyle/philbins defensive scheme, and wasn't even expected to play, yet he made the roster.

Mike was clearly making the decisions in that draft IMO.

Clearly not Mike T's class. It takes considerable time to prep for a draft. There is comprehensive scouting and roster implementation that has to take place. Time Tbum didn't have from when he took the role, much less did he have enough time to completely usurp Hickey's position. I don't think there's any question 2015 was Hickey's draft. The intelligent balance and value of the picks was very similar to 2014. 2016's bizarrely imbalanced draft plan and poor value choices are much more in line with what to expect with Tbum.

Agreed I was thinking he had started off pretty well, but feel the same about Grier and Co so far too, not only with '16 draft but I like the Alonzo trade - not over valuing a few positions in the draft to get two younger established starters, possibly very good for at least one. Media was sure to criticize the deal giving up draft picks (or just position in this case), but he pulled the trigger. I like that. The fact we got Tunsil anyway was dumb luck, but doesn't hurt matters.

I think that could very well be the case, and if it is, it's good know Tbaum was able to get the heck out of the way and let the GM at the very least, advise the draft. With us heavily targeting certain players this year, I get the feeling Tbaum was listening to Grier and the scouts, as in "we need to go get this guy". If Tbaum has the final say that's fine - you need someone that does - as long as he listens to the talent.

What poor value choices in the 2016 draft?

And with hickey and philbin fighting for there jobs why would they draft guys who are non-scheme fits or projects?

I liked Hickeys drafts and this year's drafts class comes with questions at every pick IMO except possibly Caroo and we gave up a ton to move up and around in this year's draft. Tannabaum had much more amo in this year's draft.

Interesting looking at the top 10 to 20 players at every position on Athlon 2016 NFL preview and its loaded up with Dolphins ie all drafted by Ireland. Hum

Tunsil?

Tunsil has the talent the question is can he stay on the field he missed time last year due injury and disipline issue's at Mississippi state so we will have to see how that translates to the NFL level.

Not accusing you of anything one way or another, but your post got me thinking. For those who say 'baum has his own rankings and stays by that in the draft, there can be no other possibility than he gets credit/blame for '15 and '16 draft. There can be no "he was just settling in." Yeah, he may have listened to others but the picks were his. There can be no "he listened to 'x'" - he would have listened to another 'x' on the Jets. I'm not a fan of 'baum, and both these draft classes may implode, but if they turn out well, the 'baum haters should move on to another complaint.
