My apology of the abortion of stats in the first attempt. It was a joke but, work sometimes factors in. Let's try this again, as I believe it is VERY important for next years success, and I made it a whole lot simpler to understand. These are the rankings of our 3-Headed Manster of all DT's and NT's who played in the NFL last year.

Starks- #7 overall, #8 in the pass rush, and #5 vs the run.

Odrick- #13 overall, #7 in the pass rush, and #32 on the run.

Soliai- #20 overall, #24 in the pass rush, and #17 vs the run.

One hell of a trio there, and if our LB's played worth a damn, likely regarded as the best in the league.

A closer look at playing time, which is VERY important.

Starks- 742 total snaps, 404 in the pass rush, and 329 on the run. 63.6% of total DT snaps.

Odrick- 874 total snaps, 511 in the pass rush, and 356 on the run. 75% of DT snaps.

Soliai- 526 total snaps, 232 in the pass rush, and 290 on the run. 48% of DT snaps.

If ya total the % of snaps, it comes out to 186.6% for the two DT's or 93% of DT snaps, and with Phantastic production in spit of our LB crew, other than Misi.

For those wanting to sign just one of our two FA's, I completely disagree. There is no way in hell we get better in FA or the draft, save a great deal of luck in a DT in the first.

We NEED the 3 headed Manster this year. JMO

I have to agree with you on DL. Unless DT is our first pick, we can't just let Starks or Soliai walk. I watch Odrick against double-teams and he gets washed out too easily.

I would love to see the team keep both Starks and Soliai, but to do so would probably mean not getting significant help on the offensive line in free agency. If the team goes with three rookie starters on the offensive line next year, it's hard to imagine the team making a playoff run. Grimes is a must re-sign, if Miami signs both Starks and Soliai that's probably in the neighborhood of $24 million for those three.

Plus, although the numbers remain outstanding on Starks it seems to me that his play is slipping a bit. I think the Dolphins need to draft a young DT pretty high, maybe someone like Dobson in the 2nd.

Odrick is a good pass rusher from that spot, but Starks is by far the better player.

Odrick has been much better in moving to DT but, not as good as Starks in his overall play, and did move to the outside on occasion to stop the run. The versatility of these three, with great play by all three cannot be replaced this year.

IF we picked a DT last year to groom, as I wanted to, different story maybe? IF we do not keep all three, the D lost the best part of being competitive in almost every game.

Starks slipping? Hell, I thought he had his best year, and he has been really good in each and every one since coming to Miami.

Starks was tagged this year. Do we tag him again? (And piss him off further)?

If we let Starks walk, I wouldn't be opposed to taking Nix at 19, even though he is a for for the 3-4. Imagine him
And big Paul tipping passes all game.

Its unfortunate that our LB core is so bad. If we had a good LB core then we could let Paul walk and resign Starks who is far more versatile and a much better pass rusher. However, as it stands we need Paul more just to keep from getting completely abused by the run game. Hopefully Jordan emerges next year and thus we will see more of Vernon rushing over the guard in the nickel where he excelled this year.

Also agree that DT needs to be addressed this year at some point. I love Donald but not sure he warrants the 19th pick and doubt he makes it to 40. Also I love Roosevelt Nix from Kent State. But hes such an anomaly because he only weighs about 260 lbs. However, watch the kid play...he legitimately dominates. Ive heard hes been running some drills as an ILB but hes going to be pretty slow probably. Anyways I like him and Id give him a shot.

I would prefer to keep all three. Pay them what they are worth and keep them for a few more years. We need to concentrate on the O line and ILB rather than lose one of these three and then start looking for a D lineman as well as the other positions.

Agreed, this was the biggest strength of our entire team, other than Fields, and they play very well together in a great rotation. I'm not breaking the bank to keep both but, believe fair 2-3 year deals will keep the interior DL together.

I think Oline is priority 1&3, RB priority 2. I like the entire defense actually. I don't think Patterson needs to stay, Nolan Carrol did well as the number 1 cb defender. I think the secondary was the strength of the entire D.
