The Miami Dolphins have signed rookie receiver Rashawn Scott to their 53-man roster to address the possible absence of DeVante Parker.

The Dolphins promoted the former University of Miami standout up from the team's practice squad, which is where he's been developing all season.

Scott, who caught 91 passes for 1,247 yards and eight touchdowns during his career with the Hurricanes, has impressed Dolphins' coaches all season by impersonating the opposition's best receiver.

Miami could need him this Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens because Parker is sidelined by a back injury he suffered in last Sunday's 31-24 win over the San Francisco 49ers, and both of Miami's other starting receivers are nursing injuries.

Jarvis Landry, who leads the team with 64 receptions for 733 yards, has been playing with a sprained shoulder, which forced Miami's coaches to have him practice in a red jersey that indicates he shouldn't be touched. And Kenny Stills, who leads the team with five receiving touchdowns, has been nursing a calf strain for a month.

Parker didn't practice on Wednesday, and if he doesn't play against the Ravens expect Leonte Carroo to step in as Miami's starting split end receiver. But it is possible that Scott could serve as the backup behind Carroo and Stills because Jakeem Grant, another rookie who serves as the Dolphins' primary returner, is limited in what he can do as a receiver because of his small stature.

*UPDATE*: PBP Reported OC Christensen said (on 12/01):

"Rashawn Scott has earned his chance to get a look at wide receiver. At some point, his time was going to come. He’ll step in and do a good job. He’s been extremely impressive in practice. He’s learned. He’s stayed up with the material. Catches the ball well. Smart guy. Runs well."

I think this might have to do with more of Grant not being trusted as the #3/4 WR then Parker.....Or i Hope that is the case.

If Parker is a no-go we would not have a backup if someone went down.

Dolphins To Promote WR Rashawn Scott

Doesn't sound encouraging for DVP :(

The Dolphins will promote wide receiver Rashawn Scott from the practice squad, a source tells Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald (Twitter link). Miami already has an open roster spot given that it waived defensive tackle Leon Orr earlier today.

Starting wide receiver DeVante Parker suffered a back injury during the second half of Sunday’s win against the 49ers, and though he’s listed as day-to-day, he didn’t participate in Wednesday’s practice. Parker has struggled with injuries in the past, and Scott’s promotion — coupled with the fact that the Dolphins worked out a quarter of pass-catchers yesterday — could indicate that Parker’s availability for Week 13 is in question. If Parker misses this weekend’s contest the Ravens, Miami will rely on Jarvis Landry, Kenny Stills, Leonte Carroo, and Jakeem Grant.

Scott, 24, was a 2016 undrafted free agent out of the University of Miami. He was waived during the Dolphins’ final cutdowns in September, and has spent the entirety of this year on Miami’s practice squad.

I'm expecting Miami to come out in 5 athletic widereciever sets. Ravens are top against the run, and we need a sub package to force timeouts and throw off their defensive game plan, I like it.

If we lose a WR or two to injury, won't need to alter the game plan too much

The injuries are starting to get irksome. Every time he starts to round into top tier form there's a setback.

I would caution people from seeing Scott's promotion to be exclusively about Parker's injury.

Parker is likely bruised badly and sore and stiff.

But Scott's here on the 53 now because Orr got cut.

I think that if Parker is OK enough he will be in the game.

I thought they were doing everything they were supposed to be doing with DVP, rest, ice water soaks, nutrition, assigning him to a trainer and regimen that accounted for every minute of his day. The play with the hand landing first did not even seem like a back injury. He landed on his side?

DVP not being there would be huge.

Bigger then any OLINE loss IMO. Fins just a different team when he's on the field...

I was thinking about the series of events that unfolded today ...

- Orr was surprisingly arrested and promptly cut.
- The FO couldn't have seen that coming.

So my question is, do you guys think DVP's injury is so serious that they would've cut somebody in order to add another WR??

OR

Did our FO just use an unforseen circumstance to get added insurance in the event that DVP's back doesn't loosen up?

I'm not so sure Parker is a sure thing to miss this week. Just sayin'.

I got a different opinion: DVP is limited in practice and they need someone to take snaps.

If Parker doesn't play I hope Carroo shows up and proves his talent. Many compared him the the ex ravens receiver Anquan Boldin.

Might want to rethink that strategy once you understand the Ravens pass rush abilities.
