Former Army coach headed to Dolphins

Steve Tovar Profile

Former Army linebacker coach Steve Tovar has officially accepted a position with the Miami Dolphins.
Tovar, 36, will serve as a member of Miami's football operations staff. His duties will include everything from breaking down game tape to drawing up plays and charts for practices. Tovar could be groomed for a coaching position on Nick Saban's staff.

Tover served two years (2004-05) at Army. He played at Ohio State and played in the NFL for Cincinnati (1993-97), San Diego (1998, 2000) and Carolina (1999).

Saban must see something in him, looks like coaching depth.

was a hell of a LB at Ohio State that much I can say....

This team even has coaching depth now? Just in case one of them goes down with a flu? Best team ever!

Not so much coaching depth as it is developmental coaches. Saban is grabbing guys who he considers to be talented positional coaches and putting them as apprentices under our current coaches.

For example, Hudson Houck is pretty goddamned old. So Miami hired Tim Davis, USC's O-line coach. He's "helping" Hudson Houck, but what he is really doing is learning what he uses for motivation and technique.

He could be groomed to take Edwards spot as the LB coach in a few years.

You can tell its the doldrums when the hiring of an assistant to the assistant coach gets a thread!
