Dolphins already negotiating contracts

that good we need to get these guys in camp as soon as possible. The longer they're in the more they'll learn. Man I can't wait for football season.

No nonsence! NO Holdouts! Lets have everyone in at day 1 and start getting together as a team!

I like it! Get everyone signed, the sooner the better. After all, the first overall pick of the NFL Draft signed his contract early. So, the other guys don't really have an excuse to not get their deals done.

Im really not concerned. With Jake signed, there wont be any holdouts. Non-first rounders dont hold out.

If the Jake Long contract is any indication, they're willing to give concessions in order to have the things done a little earlier than normal...so they shouldn't have a problem.

Yes sign everyone ASAP. The coaches can work the players because they are in camp and the front office can work on next year already. I will commend the Pats for one thing and one thing only, their front office constantly delivers with contracts. How many times have you read about the Pats being cap strapped or low on draft picks! It’s been a very long time. I hope Miami’s office fixes the dysfunction that has been the last 6 years.

It's good that they are trying to get everyone signed early so that the players don't really miss anything. I also think that because we have the 1st overall pick i think we also start TC first which should be interesting. Don't be surprised if the Dolphins fly out of the gates this year as opposed to last year when everyone was out of shape. I'm not saying that the Dolphins will have a winning record but how many times last year did we lose games just based off of conditioning and wearing down in the 4th Qtr? Redskins and Dallas are two i think of right of the bat.

Interesting they haven't talked to Merling or Henne yet. Maybe they are waiting to see how it goes with their workouts, I've heard Henne didn't do so well. We'll see in the long run, but you are guaranteed Bill won't over pay a player he thinks is overrated or is not all he is cracked up to be.

Huh? Ya, they may just not sign Henne because of one bad mini camp practice. Did you hear he looked pretty good in days one and two?

Signing draft picks is pretty simple once you get to your 2nd and 3rd rounders. Its pretty much just a small percentage increase from the guy who was drafted at the spot the year before, with some minor adjustments depending on position. There will be no holdouts among the draft picks, with Jake already signed.

I didn't say they wouldn't sign him, I'm saying they want more time to evaluate the talent they have. Merling was picked before him so his contract must be completed before they try and pay Henne.

"Jimmy Sexton, the agent for Merling, said he didn't expect to get anything going on talks for Merling before he returns from his July 4 vacation."

This also might slow things down a bit.

Still, their signing has nothing to do with evaluating what we have. They will be signed. The money will be close to what the slot they were picked indicates.

The whole evaluating the roster stuff happens before the draft.

I think they could be waiting to account for what they see in these guys in terms of off season weight and conditioning. One of the big things behind Phil Merling in particular is knowing that his body is not where you need it to be for him to have his best chance at success.

It's not like they won't sign the guy if they don't quite like what they see. They might just be more inclined to make some of his pay incentive base.
