"The Taylor trade frees up as much as $9 million in cap space, leaving the Dolphins with more than $20 under the cap. League rules require each team to spend 86.4 percent of the salary cap, which is $116 million this season, meaning the Dolphins have to make up around $5 million."

Note: 86.4% of $116 million = $100.224 million

We can easily spend that money by signing Vernon Carey and Will Allen to a contract extension. Maybe Crowder can show in the first half of the season that he too deserves a new contract.

Sweet! Now we can add to our QB competition.

That's a pretty stupid rule IMO. They have to spend more money, WTH...... if they have all the players they want and under contract what are they supposed to do just give money away??? I hate the NFL's rules sometimes.

the rule is more than likely there so you dont have owners that are extremely cheap (like the marlins) and wont invest the money into the team.

yep, to protect the fans and the league's investment into the team and providing a good product on the field.

The NFLPA kind of thinks the players deserve part of the profits the NFL teams earn on the hard work of the players. If all the teams started like cutting how much they spend on the players they would start seeing a lot less money.

Go figure a union with rules :lol:

We still have draft picks to sign, is that a different pool of many for draft picks?

the same but different :lol:
we have to use the money alloted to us in the rookie pool (which is almost used up) but its still part of the overall cap.

it looks like we are going to have a real hard problem with the last to sign he has to take whats left over (and that aint much)

Does anyone know what the penality is for not spending enough money?

I would look for;
1. Whoever the Cowboys cut, Roy Williams?
2. Whoever Parcell missed on drafting.
