Dolphins Biggest Remaining Need - Am I Missing Something?

Not the biggest need, but I would be ok with Washington and Westbrook-Ikhine as the 4th and 5th wrs instead of 3rd and 4th. If Miami had the $$$, Hill, Waddle, Gabe Davis, Washington and Westbrook-Ikhine would be a good corp of weapons. Add a vet depth guard and tackle and this offense could be ready to cause problems in the AFC.
Davis was released due to failed physical. Maybe Grier will scoop him up? 😂

MIAMI DOLPHINS: S IFEATU MELIFONWU

The Dolphins lost nearly 2,000 defensive snaps at safety in free agency with Jevon Holland and Jordan Poyer on the move, leading to the team bringing in Melifonwu – a former third-round pick who has shown flashes of being a solid NFL starter. Specifically in 2023, when Melifonwu played a career-high 535 defensive snaps, he posted a 75.8 coverage grade, eight pass breakups and two interceptions while also adding three sacks in a productive showcase of his talents. He’ll get a much larger opportunity to build on his productivity with the Dolphins requiring his services much more than the Lions did during his rookie contract.

There are only 4 Dlinemen on the team. Miami needs bodies. Zack Sieler and the 3 rookies. Hence the need for additional DE's for the rotation. Last I checked Miami has 10 CB's on the roster. They have bodies but no star power.
Those guys are DT's who play 5 tech.

I see McDaniel changing.
I see his play calling improving.
I see bigger players coming on board, though that may or may not be due to McDaniel.

I see the direction of the team changing from naked speed to a more balanced team; which I feel is improvement.

How much is McDaniel changing?

I don't know - but I do know that the hardest thing for a person to do is to change themselves, which is what I see happening with McDaniel. I'm not referring to his "social skills" or speech making, I referring to how he plans and plays football as a HC!

I feel this year the Dolphins performance as a team may fool a lot of posters.

I feel that we have a better, more balanced team Offensively and Defensively than last year. This should be the year that our coaching staff shows it has improved by winning more games near the end of the season due to better game plans and coaching.

Time will pass - will you? - LOL

I get someone loving what they do and being passionate about football, but hopefully, Mike will tone down his effusiveness. He risks being discursive, and instead of his players receiving his message, they walk away confused and frustrated.

This is a big year. I want us to do well, but it starts and ends with McDaniel. Let's go, Mike! Let's go!

Yeah I think he’ll be good. Our safety room might be better than last year with him. I think trader will make a good in box safety as well. Ashtyn Davis should make a good rotational piece and I haven’t seen people mention Mcmorris who apparently they love.

Its definitely better than last year, Poyer was atrocious.

Holland was almost as bad giving up 111 qb rating when targeted with 16% missed tackle rate. Not nearly as bad as Poyer’s 130 qb rating when targeted. That’s why I don’t think secondary is as bad as people think. Cb #2 pretty much the same with duck and kader already playing most of the season as fuller was hurt most of the year. Filling Ramsey spot will be tough but that’s pretty much it. Hard to be as bad as Holland and Poyer, guys were missing a ton of tackle allowing nearly perfect ratings when targeted.

Its gonna be bad but instead of having the leagues worst safties we will have a bottom 10 unit.

I don't agree with the article. But IMHO I believe Miami still needs a bigger DE type for the rotation. Two UDFA in Huntley and Rybka are 6'4" and about 275lbs, could be given serious opportunities to make the team?

I don't think they use DEs in the way of the past. I see mostly 2 X DT (Grant / Seigler), 2 X EDGE (OLB/DE Chubb/Phillips/Robinson) alignments, even last year that was the alignment they tried. Basically a 2-4-5 base alignment that morphs into a 2-3-6 alignment depending of offensive personnel which makes a lot of sense considering all offenses today are spread shotgun formation with multiple receivers.

Now, the alignment does need 1 x BIG edge which is Chubb's role, however is durability is a question (part of the reason several of us were looking at Shemar Stewart as a logical possibility for us in the draft)

I think our corners are Kohou and Storm. I like both players which isn’t the point. If that’s your one and two, you created a weakness that is not fair to the rest of your roster. You should get a good pass rush and it’s all for naught if you can’t hold it down in the secondary. And I didn’t even get to safety where we have a combo of poor tacklers, injury prone guys, and/or mediocre athleticism.

We are basically saying the same thing, just from different points of view. - LOL

Unless the plan is to deal Hill this season I see receiver as being bottom of the list. The addition of Westbrook, the return of the Washingtons and the UDFAs we signed cover the slot position as well as any team in the NFL I would argue. If there is a WR need in the next couple years it is probably for a deep threat wide out to replace Hill. Aside from that there are many other higher priority needs for this team--aforementioned OL, DL and DB. But any more additions have to be upgrades over what is already on the roster, which may not be as easy a feat as some suggest (without over spending and further compromising our cap rehab).
