Brandon Doughty got much of the second half to state his case to the Miami Dolphins.
Still, he wasn’t entirely sure he made it sufficiently.
“I’m really hoping I make the 53,” he said of the final roster. “That would be a dream of mine.”
As it has been since his childhood in Davie, a few miles away from where the Dolphins train, where he grew up a fan of the team and for whom had always hoped he would play, especially after a record-setting career at Western Kentucky.
“In reality,” he confided, “we know this is a numbers business and numbers kind of don’t work your way sometimes.”
Doughty’s offense covered 117 yards and Dysert’s 103, and, despite his doubt, one wonders if Doughty played himself into the Dolphins’ No. 3 position with his performance. He and Dysert entered the finale basically tied in the contest.
