Dolphins defensive end
Cameron Wake took the field Thursday night against Atlanta on third and 9. It was the
Falcons' fifth offensive play of the game, meaning for the first time in a long time, Wake wasn't a starter.
No biggie.
"Finally, I'm just playing football, just having fun," said Wake, who unofficially played five snaps in his preseason debut, a 17-6 victory for the Dolphins.
Wake, a four-time
Pro Bowl selection, said he still isn't 100 percent recovered from October's season-ending Achilles injury. And in light of that, for the time being, he doesn't mind being used as a third-down pass-rushing specialist, as opposed to an every-down player.
"You have to start thinking long term," Wake said. "Of course, I want to be out there for every snap, but is that going to be best come December and January?"
It even sounds as if there might be a snap count on Wake.
