This week’s Senior Bowl practices are usually the place to find NFL coaching staffs getting their first long looks at the top college players in the coming draft.
But the Dolphins have apparently decided to skip it.
According to Andrew Abramson of the Palm Beach Post, Dolphins coach Joe Philbin and his staff aren’t on hand in Mobile, Ala. Philbin was there last year, after missing his first one with the Dolphins since he had just been hired.
They have scouts present, led by assistant general manager Brian Gaine, but the team’s presence is limited.
The lack of a General Manager is also an issue here, as the Dolphins are the last team with such a personnel opening.

The only time the Dolphins coaching staff has ever come to the Senior Bowl was when they coached. Joe Philbin has been once.

With our drafting record, maybe he should have.

Something new every day....

All the scouts are there, our interim GM and the Browns sent our likely future GM. In the end, shouldn't be a problem. But let's make it a big deal.

There is no excuse not to be there. The team needs all hands on deck.

Brian Gaine is a trooper right now for the Fins.

Question....what other team has a coaching staff absent? Browns? Considering they don't have a coach that should not count.

Jesus, ALL the scouts are there, that's the important ones.

Also senior bowl is blah anyways, not much top talent there that Miami needs anyways.

You can't have it both ways. Either Philbin is in the GM hire process or he is at the senior bowl. Personally if he is integral down the line I think Philbin needs to be more involved in the GM process.

Ya I'm not buying it's a huge deal. I just have some question as to why the Dolphins, in general, don't feel the need to send coaches. Scouts are one thing, but coaches being there seeing how these kids take to the pro coaching is another. Brings another angle of insight, which I think would help in the process.

Also, yes Farmer is sent there by the Browns, but how much info is he giving his current employer? If he really likes a kid, sees something he doesn't want etc. that info could be valuable to the Browns. How much so, idk probably not anything to worry about.

Has there been any interviews or announced upcoming interviews this week? If not, I don't see how it would be a conflict.

Shoot, let's pin the tail on the donkey for the draft selection, doing it other ways surely didnt work. Maybe less research is more.

Not a huge deal. Some coaches go, some bring the whole staff, some go by themselves, some don't go at all.

Let us also remember that our ex-OC got filmed sleeping during the combine

If Farmer is indeed the choice for GM, the Browns will have had much less of a presence at the Senior Bowl. They don't have a coaching staff, and though they do have a GM in place he decided not to go. He sent the guy who probably won't be part of his organization next week. But hey, let's criticize only the Dolphins.

What interview?
