So we just hired a first time Head Coach right? But we have Tannebaum who loves the free agent market right? We already are feeling the affects of building a team through free agency with our cap situation. Correct me if I am wrong but were not the jets in the same position under this leadership?

So what are we going to do with our high priced free agents. Over pay them or hope for compensation picks next year?

I am a little confused on the direction of the team, personally I would lay low in free agency this year. Lets see if this team can be coached up before we mortgage the future once again...

I stopped being concerned just ride it out. I think Tannebaum will fail here and am dissapointed we didnt interview any coaches from winning teams but its not like we control anything

Good points. The ridiculous contracts given to Suh (whom I like as a player) and Tannehill (unproven to be more than mediocre and similar to what Tannebaum did with Sanchez in NY) leads me to think the direction of this team is to both let quality free-agents walk AND be salary-cap stressed.

the only way this team gets fixed is through consecutive years with decent/good/very good drafts. It accomplishes so many things at once. We need to start hitting with these first and second round picks, and we need to start hitting on them yesterday.

Winning in free agency does not mean getting the best free agents, it means getting the best free agents for your team's positions of need at a fair contract price.

Signing Suh was not winning in free agency when he did not come near to earning his huge contract. Not saying that the pick up sucked, but it wasn't a brilliant front office move. We all now see how his monster contract hinders this team going forward.

To make a long story short, we should be very active in free agency this year, but instead of looking for a homerun player we should be signing affordable players who are trending upward.

You mean signing one free agent then calling it a day is not a great strategy lol

Saddling Gase with these 2 contracts, I don't think it's as bad as it looks. Suh is a top player in the NFL and will be an asset, a great centerpiece for Joseph's plans, and his growth as a DC.
With Tannehill, I doubt Gase would have taken the job if he was told he'd be stuck with Tannehill through his whole contract. Final say over the roster is on his side, and will help him manage who he wants in at QB once Tannehill's contract can be acted upon.

whats more concerning to you?
our salary cap situation as it stands right now... or the fact that Tannebaum thought we were only a "Suh" away from contention?

In all fairness he never said we were Suh away from contending. He said it was a 3 year plan. I'm not his biggest fan but keep the fact straight. I want a top guard in free agency but other than that just some bargains and build thru the draft. We gotta have a guard tho.

What better way to make sure you stay employed for 3 years than to say it is a 3 year plan?

Besides doing a good job of course.

There's no doubt Tannenbaum controls everything on this team. His resigning of Sanchez and Tannehill before we HAD to sign him frighten me. And the thought of an autonomous actual decision maker GM is silly. When Tannenbaum says, "The draft is a group decision" that means drft picks are HIS decision.

We have to pick one side of the ball this year to really focus on. We have to fix at least one thing, totally and completely. Being that we only have one more year to evaluate Tannehill and either get stuck with him or kick him to the curb, then we have to rid ourselves of every excuse to fail there can be.
Yeah,, that means our defense will probably suck, or improve only as much as our draft picks in 2016 and the last 2 years develop. But, we'll at least be scoring points and have no worse chance to win than we have in any of our seasons.
Look at it this way: How many more games would we have won had we scored 10 more points than we did? Also, factor in to that a less tired defense with fewer offensive possessions-against.
Pimp out the offense between now and September and let the chips fall where they may on defense.
