Dolphins cut, bring back Zack Bowman

Originally signed by the Dolphins in April, it’s not entirely clear why the Dolphins cut him and then re-signed him.

A head-scratcher indeed.

Yea I think it was a roster qwark where Bowman was in no danger of getting claimed. That or somthing with his salary being guaranteed.

A couple of months ago we cut Josh Freeman and re-signed him the next day. I have a hunch that both of these actions have something to do with avoiding guaranteed payments to vested veterans. My other hunch is that Dawn Aponte is the mastermind and Miami is just ahead of the curve on this as a new initiative (trick). The Freeman cut and re-signing was just dismissed at the time by some in the media as Miami doesn't know what it's doing, and now we suddenly do it again on the day when all of the cuts are being made. These are just hunches and there was no leaking of the info that Bowman had been cut until after he had be re-signed.

Bowman would never go through waivers because he is a vested vet.

Glad to hear he will be with the team this season. He is going to help.

Im sure they have their reasons, theres a lot of technicalities in the rulebook

Probably has to do with guaranteed money. By cutting him his contract terminates then they resign him to a new contract with no guarantee, or something like that I'd imagine

When we claimed Thomas, the league transaction was effective at 1PM but we couldn't put Ajayi on the IR (DTR) before 4PM. So we cut Bowman effective at 1 then resigned him after 4...

The CB group has the depth we were lacking in 2014, and Taylor and Bryce McCain figure to be upgrades to Finnegan. Pass D should be a strength this year - as it was last year, prior the injuries.

McCain at nickle instead of Jimmy Wilson already makes this years pass D better than last. Worried about the S position opposite Jones but hopefully the youngins can step up.

That's why he was cut. So they wouldn't have to worry about waivers. And then scoop him right back up.

That was my thought, it had to do with the roster move after we claimed a player but before we put Ajayi on IR.

Aponte & Tannenbaum have the sh** together when it comes to finances IMO.

I'm thinking the whole hangup w/ Hubbard was after a bit more due diligence by Joe, Dennis, & Kevin... they deduced he wasn't a scheme fit
